Hi all of my VJ peeps.

I am sure there must be children that have been left in Gaza without parents. Has anyone heard about the possibility of adopting these orphans? My heart breaks for these children when I see pictures of them crying for their dead families.

I'm not sure if the same applies to Gaza, but I remember reading that there was a similar situation in 1990's Afghanistan. Many, many orphans and it was very difficult to adopt them because one had to "prove" that the parents were truly dead, many of whom never had death certificates issued. Plus, the government was in turmoil, as I'd imagine it is in Gaza as well, and processing foreign adoptions - especially to prospective parents from different ethnic/cultural/religious backgrounds - was quite low on their priority list, or not there at all. Many, many children grew up or died in orphanages as a result.

Still, it is a very worthwhile thing to consider, and worth checking into. It is so heartbreaking to see these innocent little ones are in such a terrible situation.

Theodor Herzl: “It is best to spirit the penniless Palestinian population across the borders by denying it any employment in our own country."

Ben-Gurion: “The UN partition of a Jewish State being offered to us is not the Zionist objective. Within this area it is not possible to reach our historic goal. But it can serve as a decisive stage along the path to a greater Zionist implementation. Within the shortest possible time we will consolidate a Jewish force throughout Palestine.”

Ben-Gurion: “We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid Palestine of its Arab population.”

Shimon Peres, told al-Jazeera during a live interview on Monday, 5 January

“We don’t kill and we have not killed any children in Gaza. We are the victim of Hamas aggression”

"The nation of Israel is pure and the Arabs are a nation of donkeys. They are an evil disaster, an evil devil, and a nasty affliction. The Arabs are donkeys and beasts. They want to take our girls. They are endowed with true filthiness. There is pure and there is impure and they are impure."

"One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail."

The recompense for an injury

is an injury equal thereto (in degree),

but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation,

his reward is due from God,

for God loves not those who do wrong.

But indeed, if any do help and defend themselves

after a wrong done to them,

against such there is no cause of blame.

The blame is only against those who oppress men

with wrongdoing and insolently transgress

beyond bounds through the land,

defying right and justice.

For such there will be a penalty grievous (in the Hereafter).

But indeed, if any show patience and forgive,

that would truly be an affair of great resolution.

That is a great question about the adoption. I know Adam & I talked about adoption before and I had wondered about middle eastern adoptions but there arent any for MENA. Im wondering how to find out if they would allow adoption of children from Gaza who are without parents. This is something I have been thinking about for us for awhile. I will try to find out or do some research or find away to ask.

I wish that all the children of Palestine can come to my house!!!!!

But seriously, I looked at this several years ago on the internet because I was curious about adopting from Iraq as well. Immigration makes it hard (read the book The Kite Runner, that goes into a little detail-not the movie but the book)...you have to prove that there are no living parents. In a war zone, that may be hard at times. In many Muslim countries, it is preferable that they stay with extended families. Even I asked my husband what do a lot of the kids do in that situation. He did not understand the logic of adoption when I explained it to him I think, but I asked him what do the kids do when they have lost their families. And he said they send them to live with a cousin or distant relative or something. So I guess it is a great thing that people look after each other there. But it would still be neat to adopt some though:)
