I have read in some posts (can't find them now or I would ask the posters) that some people leave their webcams on all the time so they can see each other come in and out of the room etc. Some have even left them on while sleeping. How do you set that up? We have used our webcams with MSN and been cut off if we neglected to type something from time to time. The program thinks we are inactive and shuts down the camera. We have tried the new video feature with skype and its nice but as soon as we hang up the skype phone the picture disappears (we both use cordless usb skype phones). I would like to figure out a way to just leave the cameras on. It would be comforting. This is our most difficult separation ever... waiting to know if i will be approved for a UK visa after having the door slammed in our face for getting him a USA one. Me being back in the states alone now with no way for him to come help me with this huge task of trying to get rid of a lifetime of possessions so i can sell the house and leave. Him being off work for two months with a broken toe while we are separated for an unknown period of time instead of me being there to share that time with him. It happened just before i had to leave. I have been really struggling here.

i've not had much luck with skype or msn, especially msn - which kills the cam fairly frequently. yim works fairly well, it won't time out due to inactivity but you will still get booted from time to time.

Just read something like this in the moving to america forum last night...maybe check there..first few threads. We used our webcams every day, but never 'left them up' so I'm not sure on that one....hope you find your answer! :) M.

PS I would go into your cam/yahoo or whatever(MSN?) and check out preferences...it might have something in there you can change? M.

Rick and I used Yahoo Messenger and left our cams on whenever we were at the computer.

It works pretty good but as charles said you get booted from time to time. Not that often tho, it does work pretty well. Especially if you both have hi-speed net.

It means we didn't get the visa. It means that even though they let us file a I-601 waiver petition after our embassy interview, after waiting 13 weeks for what we expected would be an approval, they denied the waiver, basically saying we should not have been allowed to file in the first place. This is all because of something on Tom's police report... something that happened almost 9 years ago.. .something that he never did in the first place but pled guilty to because a court lawyer intimidated him into doing so... something that he only had to pay a 100 pound fine for at the time and now we both have to pay for for the rest of our lives.

What was this "something?" It was a small amount of weed in a car that he was riding in. Belonged to the owner of the car who refused to take responsibility for it so they were both charged. Because it happened at the Swansea ferryport.. they were traveling from wales to ireland...the charge got recorded as "exporting" in spite of the fact that tom pled guilty to personal possession (which is eligible for a waiver). He never knew that was the charge until he got his police report as required by this process. Now he can never come to the USA ever again.. not even for a visit. Am I bitter about this? Yes. I am sitting here in a 2000 square foot home with no morgage that we intended to make our home. Now i have to figure out how to get rid of a lifetime of belongings. Thats the hardest part right now. Later on, long term, the hardest thing will us not being part of my kids and grandkids lives. I have been feeling very sad that Tom will never again be able to go to the places that he loved so much here. Extreme punishment for a couple of joints that Tom's friend was taking to Ireland on holiday. This is the reality of the "war on drugs." Good people are hurt. Our denial letter said he was a "threat to the security, safty and well being of the USA." Well all that happened to the USA when he visited me here three times (not knowing he was ineligible to do so) was he pumped a bit of money into the economy here. He bought things for the house, bought my engagement ring here, took me out to dinner etc. Big threat indeed. I really didn't intend to get into all of this again. Here is the post I wrote after our interview.. when we still had hope. Everyone was very supportive. Its the second one on the page.

Sometimes false hope is worse than no hope. After I wrote that post we spent three months together there planning our life here... only to be gutted in the end.

We have since found a house there to rent that is big enough for the two of us. We spent all that time waiting for the waiver process while in a two room flat! Had they just told us no at the interview we would have moved into something bigger right away. Actually i just wish we had planned from the beginning for me to go there. Then at least he would be able to still visit here and we never would have found out that he wasnt meant to.
