Maybe I was a little harsh about Vegas - especially for an off the strip wedding...;) But I still have this drunken elopement impression that won't be shaken.... There is one really good major point in Vegas' favor - there are LOTS of cheapy flights to be had into their airport from all over the US, and lots of hotels!

My friend had her reception at Turtle Bay (same as the ceremony). It was pretty, you could see and hear the northern shore surf, and they had a walls-optional chapel (so if it rains or is too windy, there are windows instead of open pavillion).

Hawaii gets a lot of destination weddings as well (actually, on the form they had us fill out on the plane they asked if we were coming there to get married!!), I'm sure there are lots of coordinators or even websites that can help you plan....Also, check out the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu. It looked really big (easy to find- on all the maps, including the cartoon tourist ones!) and might do weddings (I don't know) but they do have luaus - maybe a good activity for all your guests the night before? Turtle Bay was beautiful, but there aren't many economical hotels around the North Shore, so everyone but Nik and I was a 90 minute drive away down in Honolulu. It wasn't too much of a burden, but also, all the guests were comfortable driving on the right side of the road! :) If you choose Hawaii, we have good things to say about vacation rentals! They come in all sizes Studios -> 5Br.

I had thought about the burden of travel on people - I have family and friends spread out all over the country, but my parents are in town. We are trying to offset his family's cost (since their airfare will be higher than anyone else's) by giving them preference for the available guest rooms at my/my parents' house and/or picking up their hotel rooms. I also just thought it would be easier to plan it all locally - I can go to the site and watch the sunset and make a timeline of how pretty the colors are at what points, choose picture sites etc...

Also - in a nod to the actual topic (I LIKE talking about weddings though - it's our thread, we are allowed to derail it!) - No snail mail. I'm saving my extra check of USCIS for after California closes in another couple hours.

Just a quick update, I received package 3 in the mail already! So that's 5 days after we received the NOA2 hardcopy :)

Oh and I went to the doctor this morning to get the vaccinations already, and I can recommend getting them at your local doctor. My medical insurance covered it completely, plus I got very sick from the Tdap one. It gave me a fever immediately and I fainted, and I stayed very nauseous for a couple of hours. So better to get them close to home :)

M, I'm so happy for you! Hope that changes to Approval Notice Sent soon!!!! I was seeing on your ticker that you'll see each other in a bit less than a week - I hope that you'll get the good news together!! :)

Storm, Wow that's going fast! From your signature it looks like a few weeks faster or slower won't change when you get to be together again (us as well, unless it is VERY late!), but having the visa in hand will be such a relief, huh?

I'm really excited for all of you making some progress (and a bit surprised that I don't feel blinding jealousy ;) )

Oh, I should check USCIS before I send this off -No touches yet- no paper in the mail yesterday either.
