I have received conflicting information on the process from people/forums.

If I go for an Infopass appointment to check on the status of my I-751 and also to ask for a stamp, will they take the GreenCard away?

I need to apply for a visa for China and was told by the agency our company does visa processing with that resident aliens with expired GreenCards have a better chance of getting the visa approved if they have the stamp in their passports.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Maybe it's stupid, but I don't want to give away my GreenCard ... :unsure:

When I got the stamp in my passport they allowed me to keep my green card. It may vary between offices. (mine was in Atlanta)

I guess you will get conflicting answers here also cause when I went for a stamp to Newark, NJ they took my GC away. I asked why this was done and they said it was standard procedure. I wouldnt worry too much about it anyway, a stamp is better than an expired green card.
