Grover Norquist: 10% Corporate Tax rate is torture.

Great, now Grover Norquist thinks a 10% difference on corporate tax rates is comparable to torture.

Earlier this month, National Journal's John Maggs sat down with anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist to discuss the future of conservatism and the economy. Asked by Maggs about the tax cut proposals in President-elect Obama's stimulus plan, Norquist said there was only one "real tax cut" in the plan, but that there are "two other tax cuts that the Democrats could do when they get stuck."

Norquist then suggested expensing for all businesses and cutting the corporate rate, which he said in its current form is comparable to torture: "The other tax cut you could do is cutting the corporate rate. The U.S. corporate rate is 35 percent; the European rate is 25 percent. Obama is a more international guy, so we should be close to the European average. We'll stop torturing people, we'll stop torturing corporations, and that will make us more like Europe."

This guy sure does have a way with analogies, doesn't he?

Norquist thinks Obama is "John Kerry with a tan"; he thinks the Estate Tax is the moral equivalent of the Nazi Holocaust; and he thinks bipartisanship is "another name for date rape."

Corporate taxes is a complicated issue, most these taxes have to passed on to the consumer so the consumer either ends up paying to government through the corporation or directly. One major reason why repair parts has become ridiculously expensive. Inventory is profit and profit is taxed, if a part sits on the shelve for ten years, end up paying ten times as much for it. State corporate taxes causes corporations to change states, always a better deal, federal taxes causes them to leave the country.

Really have no objection to the government taxing the hell out of CEO's and that includes both direct and indirect monies.

Reducing estate taxes would have the negative effect of increasing the number of spoiled brats in this country that would have nothing better to do than to run for public office. Estate taxes should be increased, drastically.

Ok. And then a family that works real hard and sacrifices and risks losing everything to build up a very successful business. As each pass away they get hit with huge taxes that mean they now have to sell their share or borrow to pay the taxes to continue in the family business. The estate has had to pay the government EACH year on any profits before it gets to them in corporate taxes. Then they pay a tax again in individual taxes Each year. They finally after a lifetime have built up a really good surplus that puts them in good stead. They pass away and now the Government wants a huge chunk of the money that has been taxed many times already. Way to go Socialists.

All that time the business has employed people that put food on the table and given a good stable employ to that the Government has also taxed every year.

This is what the Left considers "social justice."

I believe that any discussion about corporate income tax rates should look at their effective tax rate, rather than their tax rate before deductions. Also, subsidies should be taken into account. Many corporations, while profitable, pay no federal income tax at all

Maybe we could find an intelligent discussion of corporate taxes. Grover Norquist adds nothing to the conversation.
