Madame already said she's one of those people who "can wait" for an IOU to turn into cash. No cash flow problems there. Why would she leave, she's obviously comfortable.

Steven, when you leave Madame can wave bye bye to you from her BMW while she posts on VJ from her iPhone about the plight of poor people boo hoo.

I don't have an iPhone, I'm a bit allergic to mobile phones tbh. I kind of like being 'unattainable' some of the time :)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Just send them to Cambodia....

Im sure the got there will take care of them.

What do you meant by that? Insulting Cambodia? Heck, there are people from all walk of life who needs welfare. Only those who make an unreasonable assumption are the ones who is looked down upon.

I agree. There's a lot of bitter resentment aimed at imaginary welfare recipients who are stereotyped as being lazy and unmotivated. There's corruption and abuse in everything, but to some, a few bad apples and they want to throw out the whole bushel.

May I ask, PH - what line of work does your husband do here in California?

hardly imaginary...the success stories of ppl getting off of welfare are few and far between. They know how to play the system. Its becomes a family tradition and they pass it on generation to generation.

You give them a Bus Pass, day care, Medical card, and a job, and they will call in sick three days a week.

They dont want training, nor a job...just the check and the food stamps and a TV.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

There are bad apples and those bad apples are the stereotype you are describing, but not everyone on welfare behaves that way. Welfare doesn't breed laziness, but rather under the right circumstances, a lazy person gravitates towards getting a handout - they'll do it all their life in however way they can. So what you do, is filter them out of the system.

I never get much of a refund from the state anyway so I guess it wouldn't bother me if I lived in Cali but lemme tell ya if the Federal Gov't were to pull this lil trick I'd be up sh!ts creek without a paddle since my tax returns finance my kids' summer camp each year.

Correction:

There are many stories of welfare recipients being independent from state and federal assistance. You, dessert_fox, have not encounter them. Who wants to live with a 500/month income with minimum luxury. With all those plasma TVs, luxurious cars, goods out there. Who will be tempting to make their life boring.

My parents received these benefits. They still do. I stopped receiving them when I turned 18. Now I'm an Engineer who specialize in Solid State Devices such as flash drives, and doing some major research in a new field that eliminate the need of moving electrons to the spin of electrons for low power, fast processing devices. I'm 25.

My parents are on it due to the US secret bombing on Independent Cambodia during the Vietnam War. Why did the US bombed Cambodia? Simple. The Ho Chi Minh trailed extended from South China through Cambodia to Vietnam. They suffered disabilities from those bombs. It's not their fault. They were brought here and the US government maintained their life after the war. And, there are a growing number of Cambodians who are moving away from welfare and SSI. Especially the younger generation who are 1st here in the USA to goto college and make a difference in their community.

Now, I have a house for my parents. Actually, an apartment. The house is a 5 family apartment technically that I bought.

I always felt embarrassed when I was in middle school and high school. But, there wasn't a choice for survival for us then. Now I contribute alot of my time to the state. Volunteering in poverish neighborhoods to help these people. Donating money to help those who really need it.

Becoming an Engineer is hard. You need to obtain nearly all A's in school. Accepted to a University that has an Engineering program. Go through all level of classical physics to modern physics (quantum), calculus to advance engineering mathematics, etc...Not everyone can be accepted in the program. And, it's tougher in GRAD school where you study higher level math such as estimation theory, chaos theory, etc...

That is a success story that people need to hear.

I tip my hat off to you, Niels!:yes:

Welfare recipients come from all walks of life and circumstances. Stereotyping them as all behaving the same way does them an injustice and undermines the real success stories like yours.

So if you owe California taxes, can you send them an IOU instead of a check?

lol...you get to confiscate their property.

I certainly have no problem with that. I worked for the US AF as military and civilian for many years. I saw all of the evacuees from SE ASIA...that came here without speaking a word of English. Now the kids are all doctors, engineers, and scientists. Something about the Asian culture and ethic.....you all certainly have my admiration. I have worked with them and many are my friends.

I was addressing a very different culture......that will never do anything to pull themselves out of their plight....will have more kids to collect a bigger check, and will pass the same mentality on to their kids.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.
