I am thinking if one needs welfare they maybe will not be able to move. Like I feel sorry for a bunch of leeches.

Oh well have to agree that many need to learn how to do with less. I am glad California is in the lead on not going with a drficit. Either raise the taxes or reduce the government.

Here's the situation that will surprise everyone who is against welfare. Alot of correctional officers around the country needs welfare (or state supplemental aid), food stamps, etc...It's not this occupation, many other hazardous occupation gives you these benefits.

The reason why correctional officers get these benefits is because they are underpaid, work in a job that will mean death with one stupid mistake.

I wouldn't be so selfish as to eliminate welfare. There are only a select few who abuses the system.

America didn't even have a welfare state until the 1930's (unlike Europe) and people managed to survive. Something between then and now went askew. This is something that has slowly crept into American society. It has been reformed from time to time. There is something wrong when a full time job is insufficient to live on without public assistance. There is also something wrong (as it was in the 1960's and 1970's) when generations of able bodied people never worked, lived in public housing, and got wefare cash for doing nothing for decades. I find it equally disgusting that foreigners in our country illegally are put on welfare or get money from the US taxpayer. When the well runs dry this kind of stupidness has to stop. Priorities and reality trumps idiotic idiology.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

I can wait for my IOU to turn into cash. Seriously though, I do understand the need to balance the books, but it seems as though the Dems and Arnie are locked in a game of brinkmanship on this with the state employees the first to lose.

Have you and your family thought about leaving California to some place a little more stable?

The banks in Sacramento used to take them...as everyone was a state worker. The warrants paid interest also.

I've seen the welfare folk take their food stamps to the 7-11's and trade em for 50 cents on the dollar so they could play the ponies and buy the crack.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Economics change over time. So do culture. We cannot just simply compare the time. We need to look at the scale, population proportion, etc...Time is not a static thing. The economy of the 1930 cannot sustain the economy of 2000.

Just don't move to Jersey. Everyone except the affluent have been fleeing the state for a while, it's abated a bit now because many of them can't sell their homes to get out. But if you want to see where they're going, check out the Carolinas and the lehigh valley in PA.....

Which Europe had welfare in the '30's? I'd love to hear about that...

I feel like we should get out of California as soon as possible, but I was thinking more along the lines of Arizona or Minnesota.

I'd pick Arizona, just for the weather, all other things being equal (which they never really are, so why do people always say that?).

I was talking about my tax rebate with the I.O.U, not welfare stamps, or is a tax rebate considered the same thing? :D

Just send them to Cambodia....

Im sure the got there will take care of them.

What do you meant by that? Insulting Cambodia? Heck, there are people from all walk of life who needs welfare. Only those who make an unreasonable assumption are the ones who is looked down upon.

I'm not surprise as to the number of average intellectuals roaming this country.

Madame already said she's one of those people who "can wait" for an IOU to turn into cash. No cash flow problems there. Why would she leave, she's obviously comfortable.

Steven, when you leave Madame can wave bye bye to you from her BMW while she posts on VJ from her iPhone about the plight of poor people boo hoo.
