Hi all,

Im applying for my police certificate, and on the form it states 'a person of standing' needs to countersign the form. A doctor, lawyer, councillor etc.. and must also have known you for at least 12 months.

The trouble is, i dont know anybody of that nature. I dont have 1 particular doctor, my solicitor has only known me for 3 months, i dont know any coucillors/teachers/clergymen.

Who do i get to sign the form ?

The only person i can think of is a friend, who owns a local shop, she is kind of a cumminity minded person.. apart from that im stuck..

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks all

Russ

You might want to let us know what country you are applying for a police certificate because in Canada I didn't have to get anyone to sign for me ... All I had to do was go to the local RCMP station and ask for a country wide police check ...

Well unfortunately I can't answer that question but lets hope someone from the UK will hop in and give you some advice ... You can always try the regional forum for UK if no one responds to this one ....

Good luck :)

I got the form from the police website, it asks for 1 photo i.d and a proof of address, and to pay £10 fee. It has a box for me to sign, and also a box underneath for a countersignature. Do you know how long it took steve to get his back ? i know it states 40 days.. but optimistic in my nature im hoping it will be quicker !

Thanks for your reply..

Russell... I think your best bet is to contact the embassy in London, as they will probably have an answer for you. :D

Kelle.. my fiance is also from England, and I'm curious as to if you know if there is a strict timeframe on the police certs.? Can my fiance apply to get his now, even though we haven't even gotten our NOA2 yet?

Thanks!

I spoke with Steve and he said all he did was walk into the local police tell them he wanted a police check the woman at the desk called a number and they took his name and addy, the police form was sent a few days later in the post....He sent the 10 pounds a a copy of his ID and proof of addy at no point did he need a counter signature... He was out when we spoke he did say he will look when he gets home and email me if after he looks at his paperwork for a contact number for you.....Good Luck~ Kelle

Thankyou for your reply.. The forms may well have changed, im not sure, but ill get someone who i regard as a person of standing.. and talk to the police woman when i take the form in... seems silly that i have to have someone countersign my identity and then take in my passport with the form to prove who i am a second time.. more hoops !

We have had ours for over 6 months now, they are good for 12 months, arrived within the 40 days and we have not had them countersigned by anybody. The actual police certs have a blue bar across the top, nowhere have I read or seen that they require counter signing by anyone. I am sure that someone who has gone through the interview stage will be along to confirm that.

Please also remember that if you do have any convictions on there that you will also need what is called a "Memorandum of conviction" from the court where the offences were tried and these cost £8.00 each

Wondering if you have the correct form, Tim didn't have to have a counter signature either. The first police cert he obtained due to our waiting circumstances, expired. He just applied for a new one about three weeks ago. The first one only took 2 weeks this one is going to be pushing it if our interview is in July. :(
