Which they did back in November or so of last year. Now they're closing down entirely. Every single store. 30,000 + people out of work.

And hopefully a good buy for me on a BluRay player :P

...dang vultures...hate to say it, but the about the only way I can afford to buy anything these days is at the Store Closing Going Out of Business sales. :(

I remembered when I worked at Best Buy, the General Manager would get recruited by Circuit City with a higher salary. It was not long ago. Many employees from Best Buy were also offered the same opportunity. Circuit City was in desperate need of adapting to customer centric model that most retailers were catering too.

Customer Centric is when the salesperson would categorize a customer to a respective personality. For example, someone who is always at the cutting edge of technology is considered a BUZZ. And, someone who is a house mom don't really care for high tech electronics and not tech savvy is considered a JILL. That is how many of the salespeople are trained. If you're a JILL, they assume you want DVD movies. If you're a BUZZ, they assume you want a 52" Sony projection LCD TV 1080p res., BOSE audio systems, etc..because you have the money.

Circuit City was slow to adopt these changes. They realized that they were behind Best Buy in terms of sales revenue, therefore, they recruited these already trained associates from Best Buy. My store was getting $120K/day.

Circuit City did not go out of business, they filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is very different.

Chapter 11 allows a company to hold off creditors while it attempts to restructure its finances by closing stores, laying off employees, etc.

Did you read the news?

This is what I get for not readying the article. Sorry I was going by some other article I read about 3 days ago. Underestimated how fast the business world moves.

Well they are liquidating the stores and all merchandise, but also speculating they might come back as a online store. Which I think is unlikely with all the great online stores like newegg, amazon, etc.

Personally I never shopped at Circuit City, but might stop by and see what they have for sale.

Obviously not.

Circuit City would like to thank all of the customers who have shopped with us over the past 60 years. Unfortunately, we announced on January 16, 2009, that we are going out of business.

I rarely shop at Best Buy and Circuit City. My primary store is Newegg, and online store that provides lower costs electronics and computers to consumers.

For misc. items like USB cables that I need right away, I shop at WalMart.

Knowing that Circuit City is out of business, I'll plan to go and buy alot of liquidated items. But, I doubt that'll get something good.

That sucks about those sales - you rarely ever find anything you actually want, at a price that would be a considered "a bargain".

True..they usually mark up everyithing 33% and then take 25% off....

We went to Circuit City today and found all sorts of amazing deals on pretty much everything in the stores. All the prices were marked down, PLUS an additional 10% (on DVDs and CDs) to 30% (electronics, games etc) off the marked price everything in the store. We cleaned up :P We got a BluRay player, (with NetFlix streaming capability, once we get an adaptor), a digital SLR + telephoto lense, a Wii sticky mat + pads for the Fit, and a DVD. All for less than the regular price of the camera + lens.

The camera was even less *before* the 30% off than it was recently listed on Tiger Direct.

A lot of the shelves had already been picked clean, and they had the Wii games back at Customer Service, under constant supervision. Didn't get any games though. Might go back if prices go down some more. Maybe.

Now we just need to save up some money for a vacation somewhere nice to go use our new camera. ;)

Well, we went to our Circuit City also.

Parking lot was packed and there was a big "Closing Business Sale" banner strung across the building.

But a lot of people were coming out empty handed.

10% off. Not exactly a fire sale in my opinion. And it looked like 10% off MSRP. We are interested in a 32 inch HDTV and I saw NO bargains. People were shopping the larger televisions but there were still loads plenty of them on the shelves.

Nearly all the desktop PC's were gone though. Still a handful of laptops left.

I guess we shall see what the Sunday ads bring. There was a Sony television I would consider, but I want to do better than 10% off. 25% and I would consider it. 50% off is where the prices should be IMO.

Just an FYI -

I don't know how comparable the quality, but I just was in Target and they have a Magnavox 32" for just under $500 and a Philips for about $50 more. We've had our 32" Philips now for over a year and love it.
