I'm filling out the form for the medical and it asks about "mental illness or depression".

My mum died a few years ago and I got counselling through my college and also one session at the health clinic; will that come up at all? Because I wouldn't call it "depression" and I don't want it to hold us back from anything because truthfully, it was years ago and I'm fine.

It also asks if I've been hospitalised; I was in for surgery on my mouth for one day when I was 13; and stayed overnight in hospital in Turkey for a (randomly) swollen foot. I assume these count?

Other than that, it's looking fine.

I would assume they are more interested in a "clinical" diagnosis of mental illness or depression.... It sounds like what you experience was the grieving process

YMMV

That's what I thought, and I'm sure it was never a clinical diagnosis, though it was "suggested" that it might have been PTSD.

I didn't fill in the forms myself, the doctor did that at the medical. I mentioned one instance of PTSD after a nasty attack 8 years ago; a year's worth of counselling and half a year's anti-depressant. The doctor said as I was never hospitalised for the mental illness, never tried to kill myself and it didn't re-occur it was no problem and he didn't even have to mention it on the form for the embassy.

Are you a threat to harm yourself or others? I don't think so.

Just say NO on the medical form and don't even bring it up to the Doc.
