I'm filing DCF (Bogota) and of course (to my shock) the consul told me I can not both file DCF _and_ use my assets or income (no matter that they're in the US and in dollars) for the I-864.

- Do I have to get a joint sponsor? or can I get a substitute sponsor?

- Do I still have to submit my tax forms and what not even though they don't count?

The process seems irrational and has me confused. Thanks!

Seems irrational and confused to me too!

Unless this is something specific to Columbia - it is incorrect information.

Hopefully someone who has used or attempted to use assets with DCF there will come along with some first hand experience.

(Oh and, even if it is true, you will still have to submit all your own supporting documents, including tax returns as you are still the primary sponsor - regardless)

I have 40 quarters classification, I am, according to the federal law exempt from filing I-864, since under no circumstances I can become a charge to the government(I already qualify for retirement benefits on my own), However when we entered the !-130 Application, a very nice lady suggested that even so, she filed the I-864(she has not earn a penny in 23 years since we live in Colombia), and that we get a cosponsor, My interpretation of the rules is different, but once you are given an instruction, it is better, to comply, so we are complying, you do not want noise in the system.
