wow- You make it sound so common place....Are you sure you want to run the risk? What are you posting this for? There are scammers from every country-even *gasp* the USA! Oh and plz stop calling them Pilipina. It's Filipina.

i think filipina is the english way. many locals and people familiar with them do call them/themselves pilipina.

Well, I stand corrected on that! Still wondering why the O/P posted this at all, though. I mean, isn't HIS fiancee from there?

yes she is, and my daughter is 16 yrs old and has lived in the Philippines most of herlife. I have family in the Philippines. But i dont understand your point, what does that have anything to do with it? Just because my family is from there i cant speak on an issue like this?

Where did I say that you can't comment?

I was just wondering why you posted his depressing review and advice to unwitting USC's about the country that your fiancee is from.....Or maybe you are completely missing my point because you are too busy looking for something to get jumpy about...I don't know.

edited-- because the original post is so long I didn't realize that I was talking to the OP.

it's interesting topic to read today...hhhhhmmmm..just watching you guys!:unsure::whistle::whistle::whistle:

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Michael,

I'm not sure what to say, but of course fraud happens and there certainly are red flags that both the USC and the CO should look for, but I seriously doubt that a young woman with any real job skills or education is going to be plotting any of those 3D's you mentioned. Chances are, if she comes from a very poor family and has no job, she may very well look to marriage as way out, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's fraudulent or that her emotional intentions aren't sincere. I think the Embassy in Manila has a pretty good way of determining which relationships are bonafide....some may fall through the cracks, but that's because there's just no sure way of stopping all fraud.

Well that would mean that you think that most of the pilipina young women have no real job skills, and no education?

That's not what I meant. Hypothetically, if a young woman has no real job skills or education and is being petitioned on a K Visa, I doubt she'd be capable of plotting fraud by your 3D descriptions. Regardless, there is no sure fire way of preventing fraud except to look for red flag issues in terms of the US Embassy. As for the USC, there's nothing exclusive to Filipinas, IMO, that they should look for to ensure the relationship is real. Do you have any ideas as to what to look for that are unique to Filipinas?

Race, what country your gal is from, immigration, or even marrying a girl here are not issues, getting married period is the issue, know your state divorce laws!

We sure have our share of gold diggers in this country, and marriage means sharing, not only sharing your life, but your possessions as well, while sharing your life with this person ends with a divorce, the sharing of your possessions, what you worked your can off for years to obtain, does not.

One common denominator I encountered with such women, they sure push you to rush into marriage, and if you delay, they are immediately looking for some other sucker. They are also awfully quick to want to hop into bed. Shouldn't we even know each others first name first?

Ha, was really all set to put aside my two year rule for getting hitched when I first met my wife, just happen to live in a foreign country, but we both agreed to give it time. Had, financial, legal, and personal problems to work out, ha, not only was my wife a knock out in a bikini, but she had a brain in her head. If I couldn't come up with a solution to a problem, she could or vice-versa, we were a team. Unlike that crazy movie my daughter brought home, Sex and the City, we fully discussed our wedding plans. We could communicate, never got into an argument, and had that magic when we held each other. Really didn't follow my two year rule, but 22 months was close enough. Our educational levels were about the same, and our finances and age were pretty close.

And yes, we also have plenty of gold diggers in this country. Marriage is a serious business, just know what you are getting into, had absolutely no hesitation when signing the I-864 or in saying I do, neither did she. That's the way it should be, not easy to find a person like that.

Our relationship was not changed but only has grown deeper with the conditional, ten year, and USC process, we both worked hard together to get that, we want to stay together. Ha, the USCIS is still welcome to come to our home, can question her co-workers, our neighbors, friends, and relatives, God made us for each other.

White men are pussies? Isn't that putting a limitation on finding your true soulmate? That is one limitation I did not impose upon myself. Some pretty hot Asian and black women as well.

Manila is a high risk embassy because of all the scamming going on and it just isn't the Philippines, you will see it all over the world. I still have complete faith in the Filipino people and will not let some bad apples sway me from my convictions of just how wonderful the culture and people truly are. Americans could certainly learn a thing or two about respect and treatment of others.

Fortunately, the ties between my soon to be wife, is one that is much more reliable on each other. We have children, and deeper family ties on both sides of our families. We also have support on each side. She actually esablished a stron bond with my daughter who is now in the Philippines and moving here soon with her.

I feel good about our chances. The point of this thread was to give my opinion of the change in some of the Philippine culture since the 80s. I have been in and out of the PI since mid 1980s. It used to be that it was only the GI who knew anything about PI. But now we have many people in American who think that the PI is some far off island of people are disconnected from the modern world. I have been outiside of manila and far from any cities. And one things stayed the same. The internet cafe was always there. With many people in there chatting and playing games.

I'm sure there are, but as to how many actually get petitioned by a USC with the intent to commit fraud and actually get away with it - not a high percentage. The marriage success rate among Fil/Am couples is high. Sure there are some who commit fraud but there's only so much the USC and the Embassy can do to prevent fraud from happening.
