Please forgive me if this is going in the wrong place. I've search the internet a thousand times over looking for help and finally got lucky and found this place, sadly after reading all the topic I got a little lost and now am not sure if there is a proper place to post this.

I am an American born and raised. My husband and I have been married for 9 years. Our 2nd year together we found out his status was not real. He had been scammed when first coming here. We found out once our son was born. Anyway to make a long story short, we have slowly been getting things together. (It's taken so long due to money issues). Well Feb 10, 2009 should be the last of it. We finally got an appointment with the immigration judge.

He has a work permit, drivers licenses and social security card. We are in the middle of buying a home, as a matter of fact the closing date is set for the 26th of this month. Today the underwriter calls and says she needs copies of our social security cards. His card says "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" Does anyone know if this will stop us from being able to buy a home? We have a lot of money wrapped up in this and we are scared to death of losing it especially since we are expecting our 2nd son in May and as we all know money doesn't grow on trees lol.

Thank you all so much for your time and help. Sending our best wishes your way. Have a wonderful day!!

An SSN card having the legend, “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION,” only means that the number holder cannot use the SSN card as proof of authorization to work in the United States. It does not otherwise affect the validity of the card or number.

When am I legally required to provide my Social Security number:
