AOS Interview - Do you always get told you're Approved or Not?

We have been married under K1 for 10 months and finally had the AOS interview today in Seattle,

We were asked the expected types of questions, showed plenty of evidence, talked about places we'd gone, showed pictures, etc. The interviewer was generally very robotic and serious but she cracked a smile here and there.

At the end everything seemed fine - but she said there were additional checks or something along those lines that have to take place, so in about 3 weeks we would either receive the green card in the or some type of RFE.

Is this normal? Every review of post about an interview always mentions being told you're approved right there at the interview.

Did she instruct you about removing conditions and have you sign a paper about such?

No. We asked if the Green Card arrives if EAD and AP are no longer needed, etc and she said yes that's correct (I already knew this anyway).

Are those the type of conditions you're referring to?

not everyone gets "approved" in the interview. You'll find quite a mix of stories on here - I wouldn't worry though, the interview is over, you have supplied everything you need to - they would have asked for more information (i.e. immediate RFE if there was anything extra you needed to supply).

The officer may need a superiors approval before approving your application, or they may be waiting for an FBI/Name Check to still come through...

but here's holding thumbs you get the card in the next few weeks

03/01/2007 - POE - JFK (L-1 Visa)

01/15/2008 - Proposed

03/15/2008 - Married

09/02/2008 - Sent AOS Package (I-130, I-485, I-693)

09/03/2008 - Received - Signed by SMITH

09/04/2008 - Checks deposited

09/10/2008 - Checks cleared ($1010 + $355)

09/12/2008 - 2 NOA's received (I-130, I-485) - Dated 09/08/08

09/16/2008 - Received notice for biometrics appointment on 09/30/2008

09/20/2008 - Biometrics done - Walk in (Orlando) Took 10 minutes

09/22/2008 - I-485 viewable online (pending, of course)

09/30/2008 - Biometrics Appointment (2pm)

12/30/2008 - Received Interview Letter

02/25/2008 - Interview

03/06/2008 - Welcome Letter received (the website will clearly never send me updates!)

Thanks. That's helpful - she did seem to allude to something like a completion of some sort of systems/computer check. You'd think after filing 8 months ago they'd have verified our identities in a database by now ;)

No! They last thing the IO did during our interview was to instruct my wife she had to file a I-751 in 2 years. Also had her sign a paper she was informed of doing so.

Just because you weren't informed doesn't mean you weren't approved. Lots of people aren''t informed the were approved but ended up getting their GC in a couple weeks.

During our interview they did not say you are approved, they told us we will hear from them in the next six weeks with their decision. The green card came a few weeks later. I do believe that they removed the I-94 from the passport. I do not remember any conversation about removal of conditions.

Hmmm! Well the IO didn't make me sign anything. But her clearly stated " Congratulations you are now a conditional resident of the USA".

I have read a lot of instances on here where they were not approved on the spot for a few reason

1. the FBI check was not completed

2. it was a newer IO and they had to have it "checked" or "approved" by a more experienced IO

From what my IO told me (at least here in Atlanta) they have done away with sending away the information to be "checked' or "confirmed" before actually sending out the Green Card. They (the Atlanta Office) now does it in house to make the process easier.

I wouldn't worry , I am sure you will be receiving a welcome letter within the next few weeks. If not you could always make an Infopass and if you are approved you can ask for the Temp I-551 stamp there and they should give it to you.

Cheers.
