Analog TVs are a LOT cheaper. They can still sell them until they run out!

I guess they aren't making them anymore!

Government gives you a $40 coupon to purchase the box. They ran out and you can't get any for awhile.

Wonder how much this cost the tax payer?

And if people ACTUALLY thought ahead and were responsible they would have gotten that convertor coupon ages ago.

Ohhh how I benefited via the Digital age.. hahaha. My next door neighbors.. are those kind of people that buy a new car every other year.. have to have the newest best. biggest etc.. anyhow last year.. or so.. they went out and got themselves a couple Plasmascreen TVs. they called me .. hey Janet.. we are upgrading our TV's and we are wondering if you would like to have our Big Screen TV .. hmmm. lets see.. I only had a 19 inch. . hmm free. 52 inch big screen.. **cough.. er um.. twist my arm.. I guess I can take it off your hands..

Dayam.. the thing is sweet.. for me.. it may be slightly large.. in its own wheeled cast unit. but hael.. works perfect for me.

Last May I ordered my coupon.. wanted to make sure I had a converter as backup.. actually wanted it for the office.. where I play cartoons for my clients kids afterschool.. .. well.. got my rabit ears hooked up to my converter.. whooohooo .I gained like 5 more channels.. I wonder how many more I will get once the conversion is complete..

Sad that the Gvmt ran out of funding.. .. when you got your coupon you only had like 30 days to use it.. .. still there are some that are out there that are right around the $40 range. . worth every penny ..

12 noon today most all TV stations in Hawaii went from analog to digital!

Unless you purchased a converter box or have a digital TV people that need antennas to get their signal don't have TV as of 12 noon today.

I think the whole thing is a rip off.

They MAKE you buy a box or a digital TV if you still want to watch. The box is just one more thing that can go bellyup and you'll have to pay to get fixed!

You can also pay and sign up for cable or satellite.

My ex manager had to buy a box for his 50 year old TV. He is too cheap to buy a new one and easily makes 200k a year between him and his wife.

I played with an RCA for a couple of hours with a 27" CRT TV, with an indoor antenna, could pick up four stations in analog, but only one with digital and that was pointing the antenna directly at the station. If I rotated the antenna a tad, got ghost and lost the picture. Instructions said to pay an extra 80 bucks for a smart antenna. Didn't do that, but read reviews on it. You will need a darn good UHF antenna.

Could either select 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio, with this RCA, didn't try others, in 16:9 mode, didn't use the full width of the screen, looked more like a 13-15 inch screen, so may be wise to also buy a magnifying glass. In 4:3 mode, only saw about half the picture.

Talked to an expert kid at Best Buy on this subject, told me that our local stations are not operating at full power yet, and the picture will improve. Also looked at HDTV and asked why everyone is fat, suppose to have a switch on it to change the aspect ratio, said they were using the wide screen to fill up the screen. Could be, I didn't play with it, but did ask about my collection of DVD's and VCR tapes, oh, you can play them I was told.

All I know with UHF, could pick up all the VHF stations with an indoor antenna, but for the two UHF stations, both located in exactly the same position on Rib Mountain, needed a 50 foot tower, a high gain UHF antenna, a rotor, and a booster to get on nearly a good picture. That is why UHF virtually died, very line of sight with no obstructions between your antenna and the transmitting antenna. Will be interesting to see what happens in the next month. Still have a radio.

UGh, I'm so sick of hearing about that stupid change. I'm just waiting for it to be over! It will be funny to see all the people in best buy complaining because they didn't listen to the announcements for the last 2.5 years.

And Obama wants to delay it for 6 months more here on the mainland because he feels America isn't ready yet? More pandering to the lowest common denominator. After 8 years of Bush we have this to look forward to? God help us!

I'd just like to say I called this. I'm in agreement with him too. This whole thing is nonsense and it is going to cause a lot of outages. The lowest common denominator represents a pretty large section of the advertisement base. Also they are going to force a lot more people into subscription TV that would otherwise be happy to suffer with snowy pictures.

Its a farce "forcing broadcasters to go digital to free up valuable spectrum". Broadcasters got 6 mhz for their analog signals. Guess how much they get for their digital signals? 6 mhz. There is no spectrum savings.

I was also fortunate to find somebody to take my 60" rear projection set, have to pay one hell of a large recycling charge to get rid of it. Was working perfectly, but impossible to give away a non-working set. Person I gave it to, had a couple of husky brother-in-laws and a pickup truck, that was the only condition I had, you have to pick it up. LOL

i remember when i was in college (studying communications -- advertising) and we were studying how ''advertising in television would be affected when in a few years from now (now being 1998) everything would become digital''. and it's 2009

In 1976 we were told that the entire Country would be switching to the metric system "soon". Still waiting.
