Guys, do I really need to take an English proficiency test like TOEFL or IELTS before getting a job there?

They say that if you are a foreigner and is applying for a job in the US, chances are, the employers would let you take an English Proficiency Test.

Is this true or just a case-to-case situation?

Please advise...

Hey everybody Douglas here

So check it out........... I am a (Registered Nurse ) here in the USA.

Working in the Medical Intensive Care Unit of a 500 plus bed hospital.

I have an ASSOCIATE of SCIENCE in Nursing ( Two year Degree )

....but it took 4 years to get it....

2 years doing prerequisites part-time, then applying and waiting to get in ..and then two years in the actual nursing program.

I had a friend from Thailand another male nurse who holds a masters degree in engineering and taught calculus etc part time at our school. He said our ( two year nursing program ) was harder than his masters degree.

WE also have bachelors of nursing which is ( 4 years ) which basically entitles you to nothing more than a person with an associate's degree...

except the fact that you are now closer to your masters degree!!!!

Here's the important thing that all you filipinas are lucky having your BSN already....now you can take 2 more years of school and be either a Nurse Practioner: much like a Medical doctor they order tests and prescibe medicines here in the us and work in conjunction with a medical group that has doctors also...but they function in almost the same capacity...

Then my personal favorite is CRNA ( Nurse Anesthetist ) which here in the united states has the same scope of practice as an anesthesiologist!!!!!!!

The exact same scope of practice....so they are basically a Nurse Practioner of anesthesia....!!!!!!

Having your BSN here is awesome....but not needed AT ALL to be an RN!!!

God bless and hope this might clear some things up : )

Very interesting Douglas, thanks for the information. I do have a question. Do you have any information about the position of Nurse Legal consultants? What is their status with regards to employment demand and is it common here in the US?

Thanks for the info.

Here is another option for nurse from PI with a BSN.

They started a new program this year that allows a Nurse to be a Doctor.

2 more years of school, including 1 year residency.

You take the same exam as physician takes.

You will be a Dr. Nurse

I see this one really taking off also

Hi Myla,

No I dont have any info other than seeing advertisements in the Florida Board of Nursing Magazine that is sent to me. I think you need some certification but I'm not sure of demand/pay etc. I would think you could find info about this though on a nursing forum. Good luck take care

It depends on the BON of the state where you applied or applying for your licensure. Usually they include that as one of the requirements in their website.

For US Students, They only need a Associates Degree of Nursing (2 years) to sit for NCLEX-RN.

If it's an associate degree of nursing, then you are referring to a degree leading to either LPN or LVN and not a degree leading to an RN. The LPN and assistant nurses are in lower ranks/positions than an RN.

That Incorrect.

You can sit for NCLEX/RN (3) different ways : Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor Degree Nursing, Diploma from a Nursing college (2 year program also)

I am 100% on this, I have done much research on this matter.

This is from the US Bureau Of Labor:

"The three major educational paths to registered nursing are a bachelor’s degree, an associate degree, and a diploma from an approved nursing program."

http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos083.htm

All right, I stand corrected..When I filled out the application form of California those choices (degrees) were there. Now, I know. Thanks for the info.

hi alienlovechild...im sure you will pass...no doubt about it. I don't even how i did it!

Just take your time. I had to take a lot of deep breaths since i felt that my heart was

racing while i was sitting to take the test...and i wanted to relax. Last night i couldn't

sleep thinking how i did it...asking myself if this is for real! I was totally convinced

i didn't make it but i guess, sometimes, we just have to have trust in ourselves.

We almost do better than what we think!

Goodluck and if there's anything i can be of help...i have lots of cd's..just email me.

Thank you very much for your words of encouragement...that can boost my self confidence and self esteem.

I am happy for you.

Yes! I am interested to know about your review materials.

I sent an inquiry by email to my State Board of Nursing about the english exam waiver & they grant it to me but I took & passed IELTS just in case future prospective employers will ask for it.

Hi RIDION,

Thanks again for the link. When are you taking the exam?

Goodluck..

Good day pangga! :) I'm thinking of sitting for the exam late March but it's still flexible. If I don't feel ready after Suzanne's plan then I'm going to take Kaplan's Q & A; kasi yun daw pinakamalapit sa NCLEX questionnaire. Ikaw, kelan plano mo?

for getting a job, they dont really care, as long as you have the license and if you can take well to them during the interview i dont think they would even bother to ask for any english certificate...all they care about is the license...

calling all filipina nurses taking the nclex soon...let's help each other...give tips on how to pass the nclex! GO RN PINOY

hi Taj

I am currently reading NSNA and this is what i used in giving my post tests to my students. Im clinical instructor so medyo im able to review using my book and same time helping the senior students for their board exam and their plans to take the nclex also. Its fun teaching and helping out students. I admit that way back in my college days -i never got to read or encounter the rare disorders esp the ones only found in the USA .Attached also is the link on texas sample nclex questionaires. I understand also that it varies the content of the nclex from state to state. http://www.texas-nursing-schools.com/NCLEX...e-Questions.php

Godbless and Godspeed on your NCLEX

Howdy pangga!

Here's the link & you're welcome: http://198.146.4.5/nclexrn3500/mainMenu.do...4DF53FB7A7980D2

Or you can google search nclexrn3500. Help me pray that we will surpass this hurdle soon.

Sorry Tallcoolone, I don't have a specific link but I garnered this information from reading nurses forum like this:

http://allnurses.com/international-nursing...1-page2.htmlyou

Take note of Mobiusrain reply #12 page 2

If you want verification, just contact PRC international affairs office. Here's the website:

http://www.prc.gov.ph/

Got to hit the book seriously...Go Pinoy RNs

You are a US citizen & not a dual citizen of the Philippines that's why you're not permitted by Philippine law to take the local exam

Do you have a link or website that links to this, So I can read more about it

HI Ridion..I checked your website about nursing 3500..wow i didnt know that this site exist..its really nice learning new websites from colleagues..thanks so much for sharing it to us..
