Passport and name change -- Ontario

Hey all...

am STILL waiting for our marriage certificate. Seriously, I advise NOT getting married in Ontario if you can avoid it. Every step of the way has been a HUGE wait.

But, once I get my marriage certificate i want to change my name but I was wondering, my passport is still good for 4 years, do I have to change that too? I don't see why as I'm assuming my husbands last name and thus... my birth certificate will stay the same. What do you use to get your passport? A BC.

So, anyone have any issues or ideas or comments about t hat?

I promise I'll put up a timeline once we get our paper work sent out. It's all ready, really. We just need to get our marriage cert.

Thanks everyone.

PS

It's just that we have to wait so damn long for everything, I'd really rather not have to wait another 8 weeks for a new visa for some reason, Toronto has the longest waiting periods for anything.

So, your help would be helpful.

Welcome to the forum, lgg. :)

No, you do not have to change your passport. I still had 3 years left on mine when I got married and I darned sure wasn't about to pay another bunch of money and go through the hassle of getting guarantors, etc, until it expired!

You just need to make sure that all flights are booked in your passport name. I did have one CBP Officer who gave me heck for not using my married name when he looked at my passport (Pearson International), but he was a jerk anyway. All the rest have been fine.

Sorry you have to wait so long for the marriage certificate. That sux. :(

Thanks, Krikit... that's very helpful -- it's what I thought actually as it would make no sense if it were demanded! And yeah, it really sucks having to wait so long to get everything rolling. thanks so much for your help.
