RN? I guess... not sure what that translates to in Spanish or years of schooling. Well problem is though she has worked as a nurse in hospitals in mexico she doesn't have a degree. She studied 5 years including a year of service to the country as vaccinationist... but didn't go back for the last few months to get the degree... stupid but now can't return without going thru for 5 years again... anyway I wonder if this would mean she'd need to go back to school here..

Here are the general Rules:

She will need to possess a Bachelors Degree in Nursing if Forgein Trained.

Then she will submit her application to her State Board Of Nursing, and if she meets their requirments they will issue a ATT (Authorization to Test) for NCLEX.

Each State has their own rules on what a forgein trained nurses needs to in order to sit for the NCLEX (NCLEX RN is a international test given by Pearson Vue and after they pass the test they can be a RN).

For my wife (Texas BON) we had to submit her Transcripts to a company that did CES (Creditinal Evalutions Service), which basically stated that her Bachelor Of Nursing from Philippines is equvilant to USA Bachelor of Science.

They also did FBI background check on her, and we had to submit fingerprints.

Bottom Line:

She will need Bachelor Degree in Nursing if Forgein Trained.

Or you can send her to Nursing School in USA, and it only takes 2 years to get an ADN in order to sit for NCLEX.

I don't think they'd let her get her license here without a degree. I think your best bet is to start looking at courses here. Hopefully she still has her academic transcript from before and should try to apply for credit where possible

We did CES from CGNFS, It took about a month. Transcript needs to mailed directly from your nursing school to CGNFS. I paid her school extra money to send it express mail.

No she didn't have to take toefl, cuz most of her textbooks were in English.

She is studying : Saunders Review Book, and She went to Kaplan Review Center in Dallas last month.

She sits for NCLEX next month.

She would need to pass the test. Thousands of Filipino nurses have come to America to work.

USCIS is under Retrogression and the Visa that allows foreign nurses to come to USA to work are all used up as of a couple of years ago.

It could be another 3 to 5 years before foreign nurses start coming into USA to work.

Foreign Educated nurse need a Bachelor Degree

Incorrect. Not all foreign educated nurses need a bachelor degree to be registered nurses in this country.I am an rn as well, with my bachelor degree, but I have three friends from the United Kingdom that were accepted with diploma.I guess it all depends on the country you are from.

http://allnurses.com/ check it out, lots of info, and has an International forum , just click on REGION,then International

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hi folks, my fiancee is a nurse in Mexico, and I wonder what she would have to do when she comes here in order to get credentials as a nurse here. Would that mean going back to school all over again? I live in Pennsylvania.

There are clasifications of nurses (RN, LPN and Assistant Nurse). On which of this category your fiancee falls in?

I assume that your fiancee earned her nursing degree from Mexico. Is your fiancee a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree? If so, then she will apply for licensure by examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a US Registered Nursing (USRN). As requirements to take the NCLEX-RN, she has to file her application to the Board of Nursing (BON) on the state where she planned to work. The BON will determine if she's qualify to sit/take the NCLEX-RN. The states vary on their requirements. Some states require CGFNS which involve taking and passing the TOEFL/IELTS and/or compying the CES, which was mentioned by tallcoolone, before you can take the NCLEX-RN.
