Karri... sorry to hear about your company, what line of work are you in? If you are planning on a wedding sometime in May, then you are still ahead of schedule even if you do not send your packet 3 in right away, you should be fine with the amount of time it takes with the process going on its normal speed... ALTHOUGH, I would recommend getting it done ASAP, because you never know what can happen, any kind of undue delay can occur at anytime, so its better to be safe... The world is becoming ever smaller and the smallest thing like a local election, to something big like a terrorist attack can cause delays in the process.

p.s. My family lived in Mohali back in the late 80s and early 90s for a while, I think that is near Chandigardh... : )

Karri: Sorry to hear about your company! I hope everything works out okay for you. My fiance's in Delhi...actually Noida which is right outside of Delhi, and I can't believe it took so long to get the Packet. It makes me worry about how long it's going to take to get Packet 4, since that's the Packet with the Interview letter that we need for the Medical!

Harsh: I would say call DOS mid next week, they should be able to tell you that your case is logged in and open. In the meanitime you can go to http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/ivpacket309k1.html for packet 3. We submitted DS230 Part 1 and the applicant's statement which is at the bottom of this website. We copied it and pasted it in Word Doc, since it doesn't seem to be anywhere on a formal attachment.

I have to say that I feel like we are a little behind the 8 ball here. We got out NOA2 on Dec 17th, which means our petition expires on April 17th. From what I've read around VJ it doesn't seem like New Delhi extends petitions so I feel like we are rushing to try to get this done that way if we get a 221g (which seems to be the going trend in Delhi) we have some time to submit what we need. It's become very stressful for both of us! If I were you guys I wouldn't wait too too long to submit what you need to. I've been reading some crazy posts about the Delhi consulate!

Hi Dilbert,

Here's the link to one of the threads I was referring to. Just in case the link doesn't work (I'm not great with computers) the thread is started by Kaushalia and it's called "I feel like I've been hit by a ton of bricks." It's posted in the Waivers/221G forum:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=169355

Take a look at it. It stresses me out, but I have learned a lot from reading it. It seems like Delhi is asking for an extraordinary amount of relationship proof. This is actually the thread that prompted the engagement ceremony question that I had ask Parul earlier in this thread.

Ok, I couldnt control myself so I called DOS today, according to DHL, the consulate recieved my file on SATURDAY morning, I didnt think there was anyway they would have put it in the system by now... but to my pleasent surprise, the DOS lady told me, they put it in the system and already sent out the "instruction package". I asked if that was "packet 3" and she said "yes, they sent out the instruction package." I am going to get the final pieces of my packet 3 together in the next couple of days and send it to them asap... thanks again for all your advice guys.

hey, quick question... I was looking at this website.... http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/ivpacket309k1.html .... and under "APPLICATION FORMS" it says........ "attached forms DS-156, Nonimmigrant Visa Application, for each applicant (two for each applicant)."....... Correct me if I am wrong... I dont see DS-156 attached anywhere????? I just see DS-230 Part 1 and 2.... and I-134 attached, but NOT DS-156.

ALSO.... I am guessing the I-134 has to be an ORIGINAL copy right?... or, can I fill it out and FAX it over to her?

OK, I am going to be a dork and answer one of my own question here.... I am guessing this is the right answer...

DS-156 is for a NON-IMMIGRANT VISA, which will not apply here, so we dont need to fill it out and send it.... the DS-230 application is the one that applies to us because we are going for an IMMIGRANT VISA... is that it? So I dont have to fill out and send DS-156 at all.

All, my honey called me today at 3:15 a.m. to tell to tell me that he received packet 3!!! They said they sent it on the 3rd - 6 days ago but the postmark was from the 5th. All I can say is whoo hoo! Only took a few days to get! =) Sam will be mailing this back to them tomorrow by speed post and this time next week I should know when my interview date is!

Tonight I will be uploading images from packet 3 as examples as well as the official check list for people to use for Delhi going forward if you want to send it in early.

OK, I am going to be a dork and answer one of my own question here.... I am guessing this is the right answer...

P.S. A K-1 Visa is classified as a NON-IMMIGRANT VISA. Do your homework before its too late. ;)

Hey Harsh,

For Packet 3 we turned in DS-230 Part 1 and the Applicant's Statement. DS156, DS-230 (Part 1 & 2) and your I-134 will all be part of Packet 4 and will be turned in to VFS prior to the Interview. I'm pretty sure that covered everything...anyone jump in if I missed anything.

Karri: Congrats on Packet 3 getting to Sam so fast! Hopefully you'll have the same luck with Packet 4! :)

Harsh - If I were you, I would send an original signed copy of the I-134 (not a faxed copy). Also, with I-134, I sent the following

- letter from my employer (original, on company letterhead)

- Account verification letter from the bank (listing the details required)

- IRS transcripts (need most recent year, but I included last 3 years, although only submitted 2007 at the VFS office)

- 1040 2007 incl W2 (don't need 1040/w2 if you have transcripts. I had it so I did).

Also, since I have not filed 2008 taxes, I sent a notarized copy of the 2008 W2, in case they ask at the interview.

The VFS office in Kolkata asked my fiancee for the entire pkt 4 list incl. proof of relationship stuff (phone records, emails) and we needed to submit everything at least 3 weeks in advance. I don't know about the Delhi embassy schedule but if I were you I would fedex the I-134 documents ASAP if you haven't already.

Karri - about K1 being a non-immigrant visa, no argument there, and this may be a semantic point, but for all practical purposes they treat a K1 visa very much like an immigrant visa as the intent is to immigrate (why else would you go through that god forsaken medical test list .. ever seen a tourist B1/B2 non-immigrant or H1 work visa applicants go through that list ?). In fact, all K1 packets are under the IV section on the Mumbai Consulate website. Coincidence you say.. I think not.
