Reached India yesterday and am still jet lagged. I called the Delhi embassy and they told me that they received packet from NVC. I had to actually try them 30- 40 times on redial. Finally, someone picked up after 20-25 rings...don't hang up...if it takes a long time after the call goes thro' and you hear the ringing.

Have asked my fiancee to mail her Applicant statement and DS 230 part1. Also, got an email from the embassy for some questions that I had asked them - WHICH is, what docs, etc..

Classic - Congrats on P4.

Harsh -welcome..this is a pretty well organized thread..Thanks to Karri, Classic, Parul and others...

Update - I used the less familiar email address for the New Delhi embassy after a week of no response from the main one. They responded within 24 hours this time and said they received the case and packet three has been sent etc. They didn't give me any date references but at least it's a response! Do you think if I call DOS back now they could possibly give me the date the embassy received it and sent packet 3? or should I just hang tight and wait until he gets it? Fyi, the two email addresses I used are listed under the Embassy guide.

Karri - if the embassy says they have recd your file and sent you packet 3, what are you waiting for ? A formal invite  . Kidding... Hurry up and mail your packet 3 already. I resorted to calling the DOS, just like others, 'coz those (asinine) folks at the embassy wouldn't bother to respond, right...

Besides, what have you got to lose (besides time). I suspect when they say they mailed you the packet (from the date in their system) and when it actually happens could be a few days apart. In my case, the system said Pkt 3 mailed on Jan 8 (per DOS, which turned out to be true as the letter inside pkt 3, when I finally did receive it was Jan 8), but the packet was actually mailed on Jan 20 and I recd it on Jan 24.

Dilbert - enjoy your trip in India. Good luck with the rest of your journey.

Harsh/Moksha... good luck to you guys....

Hey guys, got my formal letter from NVC... "The NVC has recently recieved an approved I-129F petition filed on behalf of your fiance. This letter is to let you know that within a week the petition will be forewarded to the appropriate visa-issuing post where your visa interview will take place"... bla bla bla....

Guys, is it safe to assume that this is a good thing lol.... I was reading some horror stories in another forum... someone had typed that they were calling NVC for the past 5 weeks, and kept being told they were in "administrative processing"....This doesnt seem like a pre-printed letter, so do you think they will ACTUALLY send it within a week, or is there still a chance that I could be stuck in administrative processing?... I was thinking, I'll keep an eye on the DHL tracking system, and as soon as the next batch of packages are sent out, I will call and check if they were sent... Was there anyone you guys know that got stuck in processing for an extended period of time? Thanks for taking the time to read and answer. Hope you guys are having a good week.

Karri--- Maybe he just doesnt want to take the chance of any confusion or undue delay happening because of 2 packet 3s in the system, 1 that they send you, and the other that you print out and send them. Don't worry, all in good time. The hardest part deff ended when you got approved.

Karri - Read my thread. Just ask him to try 20 -40 times, between 10 am - 12am Indian Time to the Delhi US embassy I think it is a number that ends in 8062. He will be able to get thro'. They can confirm if the name is in the system. It is much easier to get that # from India than from US. It rang at least 20 times before someone picked it up. Good luck...

Send him my way, I will rough him up for you and talk some sense into him :P .

Seriously though, I don't see how it could hurt. Send it in and while you are still twidling your thumbs and holding your breath and turning blue waiting for the pkt 3 to arrive, call DOS and you may find out about your interview date before you get your pkt 3 (that happened in my case). In the end, it may not be such a big deal...just a matter of few days.

Harsh - the pkt 3 is a generic not a customized packet. So, if Karri's fiance does decide to send in pkt 3 twice (and he should only do that if it was not recd at all), not like they won't see that it is already in the system. The systems can't be that archaic. It is really their personal decision that they feel most comfortable with.

Hey guys... spoke to NVC this evening and the lady said my file has been sent to the consulate as of Feb 3rd, I checked DHL tracking and indeed it was shipped out on the 4th (assuming that is my file going to New Delhi) and departed NY this morning at 7 am... Now I guess I will wait a few days then call DOS for an update... can you guys tell me the DOS number again, if its not too much trouble, and from what I had read earlier, I guess it is pretty easy to deal with them right? Also, how long AFTER it reaches New Delhi, should I call DOS?

Hey Harsh,

Congrats on getting out of NVC! The number for DOS is 202-663-1225. The options of what to press are in this thread somewhere...I think Dlibert had actually posted them a little while back. I would say give it a couple of days for them to get the case into their system and then call DOS. You'll need the NWD number that you got from NVC, but they were actually very nice. I called them just yesterday because we sent Packet 3 to the Embassy so I'm patiently waiting for them to log it in and schedule an interview for us! I'm going to go to the interview with him so the sooner I can get the date the sooner I can buy plane tickets!

Harsh you are so correct! It is like "the point of no return" when I click purchase for those tickets! Fortunately this time I get to use frequent flyer miles...the bonus to having traveled back and forth 6 times in the past 2 years! And I am really missing India these days. I just came back a few weeks ago and I already want to turn around and go back! Of course, sitting through a very cold New Hampshire winter is not really helping

Moksha, I hear ya, I got back from India on Jan 23rd and I am still kinda depressed lol, jus wanna be with her so bad, the only thing keeping me going is the fact that the process of the K1 visa has sped up since the NOA 2. Cant wait for that DHL thing to say "shipment delivered", as soon as I read that, I plan to wait 48 hrs, and call DOS.

Karri...I would tell Sam not to wait, and just send Packet 3 seeing as it took almost 20 days for my SO to get it!!! And that's 20 days after they sent it...never mind the fact that the Embassy received our packet Dec 28th!

Yikes, what region does your SO live in? hehe. Sam lives in Chandigarh and I believe it said somewhere that it takes about 7 days to get (usually) so if they sent it this past Tuesday that would mean he'd get it sometime next week (I hope!). Either way we're not in such a time crunch anymore cause we changed our game plan. :( (Originally his Fam was coming and now they'll stay in India) With my company on the brink of going bankrupt and the economy the way that it is we've decided to tone down our wedding plans. There is still a chance we could get married at the end of April or early May if he has his interview in March sometime. Only thing is, I wonder how much I can pull together in 4-6 weeks for a wedding! lol. My only real deadline now is to get married before June 1st cause the church we want is doing renovations then.
