Hi everyone......I believe we are one step closer to getting my husband's IR1 visa.

I called the DOS on Monday to check on his status since his application was sitting in AP approx. 90 days. The lady told me the Embassy had one more internal process to complete and to follow up with them (she did say, "you guys did a good job completing your paperwork"~ I thought that was interesting). I e-mailed the Embassy in Caracas and they responded back today asking my husband to return on Friday with his passport. They never actually said "approved" but I'm assuming we are since they are asking for his passport. I'll be soooo disappointed if we are not approved:)

I read that you must enter the US within 6 months after the interview. Does anyone know if that is the case if you spend months in AP? Our interview was in October.....would the 6 months start from then or from the date he actually gets his visa?

Thanks to everyone for all their support as we have gone through this process. This site has been a comfort to us!!

Congrats! Consider yourself very lucky that you finished AP in 90 days. Most of us here have been waiting at least 5-6 months and still no word. I believe that the visa validity begins once the visa is issued (certainly not from the date of the initial interview). I hope your husband leaves with visa in hand on Friday!

Since your wait was only 90 days you will only have to submit that passport. Consulates vary in response time. It could be same day, it could be up to a week (if you're walking it in)

The validity of the visa will depend on the length of validity left on the police certificates and the medical exam. Usually police certs are good for 6 months and medicals for a year. . . .the visa will have either six months or the validity of those two items. . .whichever is shorter. I would estimate you will have 3-6 months validity.

Thank you. That is very helpful. Correct me if I'm wrong but he needs to ENTER the US before the visa expires. Once he is here, he is free to go back and forth between Venezuela and the US. He has a ranch in Venezuela and needs to finish us some business there. He will not be able to do all that in a 3-6 month time frame.
