I'm indifferent about the land dispute of Israel and Palestine. If they want to blow each other to ####### because of fairytale religious differences of who has the Holy entitlement to what land, while ignoring the international voice of a non-violent approach, then more power to them.

I just think that the American taxpayer shouldn't have to fund it.

you are indifferent but you care about international voice Yes?

Israel is a viable, recognized government, with diplomatic relations with every country in this world except a handful of Arab ones...

Hamas is a non-viable unrecognized government (except as a terrorist state) with no diplomatic relations in this world except for a handful of Arab countries.

Israel participates in world culture in positive lights. How is Hamas participating... The internationally voice has certified Israel...

Not when they're condemning Israel's campaign in Gaza they aren't.

Everyone gets condemned by the UN but it is in the context of a union of nations telling another RECOGNIZED nation

That the Palestinian people don't have a single, unified representative (and yes "recognised") government shouldn't exactly be a point of pride. Regardless - it doesn't seem to have much to do with the statement above, which was suggesting that most countries of the world would like to see this dispute resolved through non-violent means.

They dont'have a recognized government because they refuse to act like governemnts of the world. If the world did recognize a government of Palestine there would be peace in the region... a dispute can be reconciled non-violently, however this is a violent dispute which is being reconciled violently... brought on and perpetuated by Hamas.

The poster was saying that Israel and Palestine are ignorin international voice while dealing in fairytales and religious zealotry... there is no fairytale

I'm not sure I see how the world "recognising" a Palestinian government would magically bring peace to the region. The dispute seems to be carry on regardless of what anyone thinks or says about it....

I believe the phrasing was "fairytale religious differences" in regard to who has the God-given right to the land.

who cares about godgiven... Israel has it and justifiable so acording to internationl law and recognition, the rules of man

and a Palesinian government strong enough, stable enough, and fully internationally recogniszed means that people came to power who care for their poeple more than they hate their neighbors and that makes peace happen

"the rules of man" What are those when they're at home?

I'm starting to think that your idea of a solution involves the Palestinians somehow going away and shutting up.

International law has ruled against Israel on numerous occasions, and I believe that it actually holds the record for holding the most uncomplied with UN resolutions, so that doesn't seem like a standard that grants your position legitimacy.

Yes... But given that we can't exactly separate Israel from the political situation in Palestinian territories, this isn't something that's likely to happen while military action is being conducted in civilian areas.

As a pragmatic person Palestine is there. As far as I know there have attempts over the years for many solutions... all rejected because they hold out for the prize they will never get.

The UN likes to pick on Israel... I somehow doubt the the number of UN resolutions passed against Israel accurately reflects the % of world issues requiring resolutions perhaps a bias is there...

While no country is immune from international scrutiny the UN has never told Israel to cease existing, thus confirming Israels right to exist. :bonk:

So what point are you trying to make...? Israel is doing something that the international community doesn't like? I'll agree with that... Or are you suggesting that Hamas had the rght to fulfill their stated goals because Israel is retaliating too hard?

So first you cite manifest destiny via "international law" and the rather vague "rules of man" then you throw it out the window when its pointed out that Israel doesn't exactly respect the same international law you're citing as a defence. :bonk: indeed.

While no country is immune from international scrutiny the UN has never told Israel to cease existing, thus confirming Israels right to exist. :bonk:

And... What...? The UN isn't calling for Israel to be disbanded. Neither am I.

So what point are you trying to make...? Israel is doing something that the international community doesn't like? I'll agree with that... Or are you suggesting that Hamas had the rght to fulfill their stated goals because Israel is retaliating too hard?

Don't be stupid.

Powerful stuff. A memorable speech.

Not really. Only obsessed posters post huge and cut and paste articles to back their views to the annoyance of nearly everyone else. It doesn't matter what the subject or POV is. Most people won't read a book length response.

Exactly, I just scrolled right down past all that, why oh why do people think that we want to read paragraphs and paragraphs of pasted text? Have an independent thought!
