For the I-864, a joint sponsor must include proof of citizenship. My dad does not want to send his birth certificate in. Is it enough to send in a copy of the front page of his passport to prove his citizenship??

Thanks for your help!

Caity

I also have a follow up to this question...

I do not make over the poverty line yet (full-time student) and so I am using my father as a Joint sponsor. However, he and my mom file taxes jointly, so I was going to have my dad also use the income from my mom and then have my mom fill out an I-864A.

Does this make sense? Or will it not fly if the Joint sponsor uses income from someone else in the household?

Thanks!

The page of his passport that has his photo and information (details about him) will be sufficient. I think its called biographical page????? whatever it is. Just that page will do. All the best

yes. thats what we did. parents in law have joint taxes, so we had them both fill out the 864A. we got a RFE because we forgot to add their birth certificates (send copies of it) and now it seems to be fine.

I don't live with my parents anymore, so I don't think I can have them both fill out a I-864A- since they are not household members. So, I was going to have my dad be a Joint sponsor, and then on HIS I-864 state that he will also be using income from a household member (my mom), and then have my mom fill out the I-864A. Does that make sense?

Will this be ok?
