Things that make you go hmmm...Some people are very judgmental about certain things in life and not as much about other ridiculous things..a lot of double standards. Since I'm not thin (or a self-proclaimed "hottie"), maybe my words don't hold as much value to some around here.

Why do you think she got upset?

I seriously think if she actually realised her actual size she wouldn't have been so surprised and upset if they told her she didn't fit.

Right, someone dealing with a tumor would just be fine with that I'm sure. Who cares, I am not defending her size, but the rude comments irk me.

It's possible that the technician made an inappropriate remark, which is unethical but - I have to say it, there is no requirement to become so overweight that one can't fit into standard MRI machines, surely? Surely there are very few/no medical conditions that allow for this type of obesity? I am not a Dr so I don't know for sure though.

Haha, that's great.

I'd offer my two cents, but I've already been privately warned by some of our more portly moderators that if I make fun of the obese anymore, I'll be kicked off VJ.

Why don't you post your pic here and let us decide if there is something about you that we can make fun of. It would only be fair.

You can make fun of him already... you know you wanna

seriously uncle wally makes a very good point

yes some people are overweight due to medical problems but the majority of people who are overweight or obese are just eating too much and not getting enough exercise

My point was, you don't know what people are going through and you shouldn't judge them until you have walked a mile in their shoes - in my opinion.

Exactly. Until there is a way to outwardly determine a persons medical condition you are making basically making fun of them all. Would you make fun of a dark skinned person and then say later that you only meant the ones that had been out in the sun too long?

And just the screen name of uncle wally is enough to make jokes about. But for the sake of the mods I am trying to behave.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

I have been very overweight before due to a medical problem but I did not use that as an excuse to stay overweight. I know exactly how it is.

What you just wrote would be a good reaction to you saying you don't like fat people.

Maybe you don't know if they are doing something about it or not. Unless you have long conversations with every "fat" person.

What we know is being obese (as apposed to a bit overweight) is in itself unhealthy so that no matter what condition causes one to gain weight it must be beneficial to try to moderate that weight gain, even if that does require a huge effort from the person who has/gets that condition. I am not trying to be preachy, but there is a difference, surely between being a little overweight and, well huge. Being huge is a new problem.

Why would one do something about it if they don't recognize how big the problem is? This woman was upset because she felt she was not THAT large. Obviously she was wrong. I hope it was a wake up call for her.
