Perhaps she has health issues that cause obesity. Making a mockery of this woman is really up there with any sort of prejudices. Sometimes you just don't know.

Whatever the issue, she needs to lose the weight. Either because of health issues or pure lazy-azznezz. Or not loose the weight and die 10 years before her time. Not really my problem either way.

Do I dislike fat people? I think I do. There is enough information out there on how to eat properly, or how to treat say, thyroid conditions. And don't get me started on the so called "parents" of extremely obese children: they should get their kids taken away to a more healthy environment.

Count me in,

Not loving yourself to the point of morbidly deforming your OWN body to that extreme, not good at all and personally don't think too high about people like that. If it's related to the thyroid, etc it is different.

How common are thyroid and metabolism problems?

Not uncommon at all, but they alone don't get you to 275 on a 5-0 frame.

Well no, you can't get to that sort of weight without (at least) taking the precautions necessary to manage the condition. So it is still essentially a behavioural problem.

Well let's just say I am coming from a place where to maintain a healthy weight I can only eat around 800 to 1000 calories a day. I have had my thyroid tested, and they can't find anything wrong with it. I suspect there is more to it that they just don't know yet. Am I morbidly obese? No, but I eat a whole lot less than the normal person does. It just sucks. :crying:

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

If you see an obviously homeless person on the street, do you feel compassion for them or do you ridicule them?

What if someone didn't love themselves enough that they became an alcoholic or promiscuous or became a coke addict or...say...homeless, as they had given up.

Those people don't get the same kind of derision from society as people who are overweight do - because, unless someone is obviously high, staggering down the street - you probably don't really 'know'.

I just think it generally shows a lack of compassion.

I SAID "I don't think to high about them" NOT that I didn't feel compassion, of course I do...poor souls can barely move their own being and you think I don't feel pity for them?

Let's face it, there are a lot of people that are KILLING themselves every time they take a bite out of a burger. They are the only ones that can stop it, but some of them don't. Pity but besides feeling bad about them I cannot do anything else.

To a homeless, I can give a dollar. To an overweight person, I cannot take away lbs from them.

Actually the homeless tend to get ignored entirely. Unless they're out there - exposing their private parts, or defecating in public - they don't get noticed at all; and then only as a unpleasant hazard that needs to be avoided.

I'm not endorsing this view of course, that's just how it is.

Ummm not that I think this woman is 'ok' but ..... www.getting2goal.com <----- that was me 10 years ago. 200+ pounds heavier. I gained most of it after the death of my son.

I don't think that makes me a bad person or any less worthy of a little human compassion. In fact, without it, I would never have lost the weight.

Like morocco4ever, I have to pay VERY close attention to my diet, my caloric/fat intake as well as the kinds of foods I am eating. I MUST exercise at least 5 times a week JUST to now maintain a healthy weight. It's more than anyone else I know has to do.... even my skinny friends. ;)

just sayin

The advice to use an MRI at a zoo was likely not given in malice. I feel sorry for the lady but I don't think she or her husband should have been mad about it.

We were watching Larry King the other night and the winner of Biggest Loser Season 3 was on - he's gained back about half of all the weight he lost. I was shocked to see the before, after and after. He said he got very depressed and went into hiding because he didn't want people to see he fell off the wagon.
