Hi Everyone,

"When I grow up I want to be a..."

What an interesting question to ask, indeed. Thanks for posting a thread about this, Sprailenes.

I admit, over the years, I've changed my mind so many times. It's hard to decide really!

Sometimes, I have to wonder: "Am I still growing up"?, as I believe "It's never too early or too late to want to "grow up" and "be someone".....

When I grow up/am growing up, I (Ant) want to be:

-Age 7: A teacher (as it was written in my elementary school yearbook)

-Age 10: A writer/author (I loved to write, and as also mentioned about in a detailed elementary school report)

-Age 14: A lawyer (oh gosh, why did I let my ex-parents talk me into this one)

-Age 16: A minister/religous worker (I wasn't religious and disciplined enough for that though)

-Age 18: A psychologist/quack (no, not a duck) (but then again, I was too quackers for that one)

-Age 20: A librarian (I actually studied to be a library tech in college, but gave up on that)

-Age 21-23: A teacher (I volunteered teaching ESL to new immigrants in Canada, and taught kids at summer camps)

-Age 21-23: A writer/author (I studied for an English BA at university in Canada, but gave it up due to US immigration)

-Age 23-26 Present: A loving wife and mother (which I finally settled down on now and am overall happy with)

Hope this gives you all an insight as to my life and my ambitions, career-wise too!

Good luck Everyone, on your dreams and ambitions. And always remember: "The growing up process always continues...And you can be anything you put your mind to be, no matter what!"

Ant (Still "growing up", yet have "settled down"...)

Heheh One thing stands out most in my mind. When I was 10 I wanted to be Paula Abdul. I played the Forever Your Girl Tape over and over and over, singing and dancing along.

My fiance has a habit of getting his iPod stolen. He got one stolen when he worked at PetsMart then he got a second one which was stolen during AIT training at Fort Bliss. Men. So I gave him my iPod, which is currently filed with Rap music (which I have nothing against, I'm just more for metal, and alternative). I think the Army corrupted his music taste...he used to be into the same stuff as me...but now.

OKAY. Done ranting.

But at 20, I currently want to be a CSI. :D

I wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved animals until the day I discovered that Vets have to operate on animals sometimes and then I wanted to be a Librarian because I loved books but the more I thought about it I thought that job might get boring...

well until i was about 13 i wanted to be a doctor then i found out babies dont come between the hours of 9 and 5 so that was out

I wanted to be a princess. Did I tell you my princess story? I wanted to be a princess SO bad. We had a play when I was in grade 2, and the teacher was deciding who was going to play what part. I was a rough and tumble child, precocious, assertive, actually...a brat! Not too neat, and I had black hair, and didn't wear frilly dresses. I say that because there were several girls in my class that were "perfect little ladies". They had blond coiffured hair, and wore pretty pink and white frilly dresses. They were most polite and respectful...and didn't play with me. Anyway...they ALWAYS were the teachers pet. They sat up front and got the best marks and won prizes. Sooooooooo when the teacher said, "who want's to be the princess?" in the play, I shot up my hand, says "oof, oof!!!! MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". The teacher said, "no Carla, you wouldn't make a good princess at all...you don't look like a princess". My word... I put down my hand slowly, and I was devasted. I wasn't princess material?? How come?? The teacher (Mrs Stewart), chose one of the "pretty girls", to be the princess. I can honestly say, from that day forth, that impacted on how I saw myself. Remember, I was a child. I came to believe that if I didn't "look" a certain way, I was not "good enough". This was reinforced throughout all my childhood as far as I'm concerned, and impacted my self esteem.

Fast forward now to 2003, when I met Gene. I truly believe in having one true love, and Gene was it, I knew this very early on, however the clincher was when I told him this story ( I had NEVER told anyone this story) and I wept. I was 45 years old and I wept!!! Over a princess part in a play when I was 6!! Gene wept with me. For me. He told me I was beautiful...and I was truly a princess...his princess.

Nothing has ever been the same since. Did I need validation from a man? No. It was validation from SOMEONE that recognized I was truly beautiful. That my beauty comes from within, and that there is no greater beauty.

I'm crying now, just writing this! I must go...do I hit Post? Yes...

Edited to add that it's too late I think to delete this thread. Sorry if I've brought anyone down with it. I know it was posted to have some fun.

I'll add that after my princess plan, I wanted to be a nun, a nurse, a librarian, a teacher...gosh, I wanted to be a million things!
