I am looking to see if any of you know of a computer that is senior friendly. What I'm looking for is similar to the jitterbug phone for seniors which has big keys and simplified functions. http://www.jitterbug.com/Phones/

My dad just purchased a Dell laptop. Inspiron 1525 and the day after I hooked it up to his wireless internet I called to see how things were going and he told me that it is now in the linen closet underneath all the towels. Come to find out, I had showed him how he can listen to his classical radio station online but he never closed the window (or shut the computer off) so for whatever odd reason at 4:30am Vivaldi's Four Seasons woke both my mom and him up at full blast volume. They tried desparately to turn the thing off and ended up burying it in the linen closet for the remainder of their slumber. I went over to shut it off (they didn't get what I meant when I said "you need to close that window") and now it sits on the desk collecting dust because they're PETRIFIED of it.

Any suggestions would be immensely appreciated.

The process of learning is to correct the mistake. Teach them step by step. When they encounter a problem, and you're not there. Let them write notes. Then, when you get back, show them how to solve the issue.

Teach them to hold down the power button for five seconds, if running XP or Vista and just not having any data to save like a 50 hour CAD drawing, they don't care, will just boot up like nothing happen.

Pulling the AC adapter plug also works, dang battery will be dead before you know it, my definition of a portable computer is one with a very long extension cord. But really not that complicated to pop out the battery. A permanent way to kill a laptop is to let a drop of water hit it.

But even when it boots back up they have no clue how to navigate the thing. He JUST got used to windows 95 and this freakin' computer has vista that confuses ME.
