financial Aid for College while AOS is pending

Hello,

My wife is interested in enrolling in college and we will need financial aid. I was just wondering is anyone has any experience with getting financial aid while waiting for the Green Card. She has a social security number, her EAD and travel documents. I just figured this would be as good a place as any to ask about this.

as long as i understand you need to have a green card for at least 1 year to be considered a resident (at least in TX) so the fees will be the same than for the local people..... any other aid.... i dont know..... does that goes against the affidavit of support?????

You cannot get financial aid from any school until you have your greencard.

I started college while I was adjusting status, and that was fine (because my husband is militaty I was a resident from day one and only paid resident fees). I applied for financial aid but was told that I was unable to get it until I had the greencard in my hand. As soon as I got it, I went straight to the college and they continued the process. It's government aid and is available to non-citizens, but they have to be permanent residents with a valid green card.

for example in Boston:

For BU you need a green card (they didnt day anything about having it for at least a year).

MIT gives financial aid to both residents and non-residents

For government financial aid, it does not depend on the schools. You have to be a permanent resident or a us citizen.
