what country? Usually the application, interview and decision on a tourist visa is a quick process...

If she's from a poor country the answer is probably never. If she is from a non-poor country, she should already have it. We definitely have to know which country she is in to have any chance of answering your question. Also it doesn't help if she's from a country we are at war with, have any kind of embargo with, or a host of other things... it's unlikely to happen as well.

She's from Cambodia. I hope it's not another year until she's approved.

My guess is being young and from a poor country she is most likely not going to get a tourist visa. If Cambodia is anything like Thailand consulate (which it most likely is), to get a tourist visa they have to show strong ties to the country to assure their return, and I doubt at 20 in Cambodia she has strong enough ties to convince the embassy she will return.

Have you considered going to visit her?

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Chances are she's not going to get it. Approvals are usually quick. And being a single young girl from a poor country, chances are very bad she will get one any time soon. If you want to meet, it will have to either be in her country or a 3rd country she can get into. Don' wait for a year, just go there.
