0livia, I will be praying hard for his protection and safety, you can count on that.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

He said it's Rafa on Gaza Strip & that he volunteered for it after his senior doctor and another doctor volunteered for it. I don't know what he was thinking. He did this to me two years ago when Israel was bombing Lebanon. He wanted to go help then and now he really is going to help. He says he will do good work. He also said it won't affect his release date. I don't know how this will affect me going to Egypt this summer. Lets hope it doesn't. :( Ack. I have to get ready for classes now.

inshaAllah he'll be safe. Your husband sounds like mine. Tamer has been pacing restlessly since the bombing started, wanting to do something. It's an admirable quality, but one that doesn't provide a lot of comfort for wives. I am sure that many people will be saved because of his work, and for that may he be blessed.

And Olivia if you do go and he is still there could you be with him? I see an awesome opportunity for a documentary there since that's what you're into right?

I *wish* my husband would be pacing, or at least talking about it! He's sooo not interested in it right now that it bugs me, though I know where his sympathies lie it's just that he's more concerned about our particular financial situation to be worried about Gaza. Honestly I think it's because growing up in Cairo he's seen many people, friends and family, arrested for speaking out so over a period of time I think you just become numb knowing there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. Maybe after a few years of living here he'll open up a bit but perhaps not out of fear for his family who is still there.

Olivia-

You have really had a hard time at it, but remember all the hard times there will be some good stuff for you and your husband. Just keep your eyes on the prize, and know that this too will pass.

(F) I've just accepted that there is nothing I can do about it. It's done and I hope he is safe. I don't know why he did this when we have four months to be together after two years of waiting. I just bought my ticket to Egypt this week and then he gives me this news. Now I am feeling a sense of rejection. Why is he having a death wish? He was safe away from it all in the desert and now he going into the thick of it. I guess he has to do this to find out for himself. I just got done dealing with my younger brother on a tour in Iraq in the Marines. I'm taking this news harder than when my brother told me he was going to Iraq. I think it's because this news is a shock to me and my brothers news we were all kind of prepared for. I've cried enough about it now. I just have to think he's going to make it through like my brother did and he will be released the same time as his formal letter says and we will be together this summer. That's all I can focus on now. I can't let my mind go elsewhere with it. Now back to school life and finishing another hectic semester.

Olivia, Inshallah there will be a hedge of protection around your husband from all of the thoughts and prayers for both of you.

It is SO hard for us to understand decisions like this. Hicham and I got into an argument the other night about how he wanted to go to Gaza and do something. While I completely understood his desire and need to do something, I couldn't understand how he could put himself in danger when we have a son. There is absolutely nothing in this world that I would give my life for EXCEPT for my child, so doing something that could take me from him, is unthinkable. But you know, Olivia, I think God wired us women just in this way. Hard to understand, and it certainly doesn't make it any easier on the heart.

I am proud of your husband to volunteer to help those in need. Inshallah, his nobility and desire to help will keep him safe. And I also pray that you somehow are able to find some kind of comfort.
