It seems things have changed a lot since I landed my job about 10 years ago. It seemed at that time that you could basically just "answer a want ad" and if you were qualified , got the interview and got a job. I also remember I had a part time job as well at a retail store and basically you can just walk in and fill out an application, and if you showed interest and followed up with a call, you can get the job.

Fast forward to 2007, 2008 and 2009

How come a store might have a sign up "help wanted" sign and when you go in the store you inquire about the sign and they say "go online and apply" (meanwhile your application seems to get lost in the abyss of cyberspace) .

I was in a store yesterday that had a "now hiring " sign up and I asked the salesman "are you hiring part time or full time? And he just answered we're not hiring now.

Has anyone experienced this and how did they get over it? How do you market yourself online today for just a basic entry level job? Any other experiences cuz I find this extremely frustrating!

thanks!

I was just talking to our HR guy at work about this. The application process is definatly preferred to be online nowadays.

I would suggest for entry level positions.. go to careerbuilder.com and just send your resume to anything that looks appopriate for you. I know thats a dumb answer, but if everyone wants you to apply online; redo your resume and send it out everywhere :)

There are some resume writer help sites that charge you, but you can see their examples for free. You can get some ideas there.

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Thats the way it is, we have nothing to do about it. So build a nice resume and go to Careerbuilder.com and Monster.com and apply.

Just in case you see a "help wanted" or " we're hiring" sign, don't approach just anybody in the premise where you see the sign, ask for the Manager or the Human Resources, these people can tell you what they are looking for and can tell you what website you can go to if they want you to apply online.

Just hang in there don't give up, theres a job in there somewhere waiting for you. Job Hunting for us immigrants are really tough plus the economic situation, its hard to find a job this days.

I absolutely love the online process because you have the freedom to sell yourself and make your resume and/or application stand out above all others. I've also never had any problems with applying online and neither has my husband. If they don't call it's probably because they already filled the position or saw that you didn't qualify but most employers have always called us for an interview.

Yea, everything seems to be going towards the online. Claudeth had the same experience when she went around in the mall looking for openings.
