Hello! My name is Katie and I live in USA. However my boyfriend, and soon to be fiance lives in the UK. We have known each other for quite a few years and have spoken online and on the phone, many times. He will be here next week to visit me for two weeks. But we would like for him to move here. I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as far as getting that done. I have no clue as to where to start. We have considered the fiance visa but seeing as my divorce has not yet been finalised with my ex, that is not currently an option. My ex and I split four years ago and we just filed our divorce. It will take 90 days for that to be finalised.

Ben is wanting to come to the states to be with me as well as to study IT. Seeing as the economy is bad right now, it is hard for him to get work here, but he will be looking and trying for a work visa. I really dont have any idea how this works and if anyone would mind giving me some help or any information, or advise as to what options we have in getting this done I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thank you!

~Katie

Hi Katie,

Welcome to VJ. A great starting point on determining which visa is best for your guy is by reading the Guides here on VJ. They are very informative. Secondly, his chances of getting a work visa prior to getting a fiance visa are pretty slim. So, while it stinks to wait for your divorce to go through, (and believe me I know since I have been there, done that), its probably your best bet to get the divorce and then file the I129f petition. But again, I encourage you to read the guides!

Good luck!
