God talks to us ugly and poor people, which is why I guess some people just can't relate. It makes more sense now.

Sounds like you got a shitty deal.

All you get is talk, while the rich and beautiful get to enjoy the full spectrum of life's delights.

Ha, viewing the replies of this thread to date probably explains why "Most US Christians define own beliefs."

Gee, wasn't that the title of this thread?

I personally do not want to be in a church that stops preaching truth - period.

Which is exactly what's wrong with religion.

So, churches shouldn't preach truth?

when jesus was hanging on the cross beside the two others...one of them believed and the others didnt. the one who believed went to heaven...the one who didnt...well didnt. this is why we believe all it takes to get into heaven is believing and accepting and not actions. if it were actions then neither would go.

Actually, we don't know what ultimately happened with the other thief; he may have believed before he died, or he may not have. The Scriptures are silent on that. And yes, our actions are never good enough to get us to heaven, only trust in Christ will do that.

one-third believe Jesus sinned while on earth

Interesting. I thought that was a given. Shows how much I know...

One of the core teachings in Christianity is that Christ, being God in the flesh was without sin. His death on the cross was as the spotless Lamb taking the penalty of our sin upon himself. If he sinned, then his death would not save us.

I find that to be a circular argument. I think there are several examples in the Bible of Jesus' actions that would be considered sinful, don't you?

Well he is God - he can pray to himself for forgiveness, forgive his own sins and be sinless once again. :P

Heh...well yeah I think churches should most definitely preach the truth. They should preach that there is no god and their congregation is better off learning to use their own free to do good in the world rather than putting their trust in a magical invisible man. That would be preaching the truth.

How is it circular? He kept the Law. Granted, he violated some of the teachings of the Pharisees, such as healing ("working") on the Sabbath, and often went out of his way to do so, but those teachings were not God's Law, but additions to and misunderstandings of the Law. Can you give me some examples of what you consider sinful acts by Jesus?

I guess it's not circular as much as a false dilemma? God cannot sin. Jesus is God. Therefore, Jesus cannot sin.

As for an example, what about the money changers incident? Is anger a sin?

Not according to the Bible. And no, I don't believe the above is a false dilemma at all. It's simply a matter of who Jesus is, what is nature is.
