I don't know what is this all about. Anyways, if this citizenship new rules will take effect does it mean that I'm loosing my Canadian citizenship? For example, I became canadian citizen way back on 2004, with this new law..am I loosing my canadian citizenship?

"Have faith in God, Jesus answered. I'll tell you the truth. if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself to the sea, and that does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen. it will be done for him. Therefore I'll tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (MARK 11:22-24)

If you give us some details i'm sure someone can help you out with some answers.

What new law?

Why do you think you would lose your citizenship?

First off by your time line you just filed for AOS, you are years and years away from being eligible to even applying for US citizenship.

If you get to that point (generally after 3 years of your PR date on the issue of your Green Card) depending on other residency requirements and other factors, then you can if you want apply for US citizenship.

If you do down the road, you don't lose your Canadian citizenship at all. You become as Canadians call it Dual-citizenship. Like me, I hold both citizenships and passports etc. I lost nothing but gained a whole lot when I applied for/and granted my US citizenship.

But looking at your timeline you are far ways from that point...

The new Canadian citizenship laws are being written to address some wrongs done to individuals who were citizens at one time but who lost their citizenship, or to give citizenship to those who should have been citizens but got 'caught in the cracks' of the previous law. It should have no effect upon your Canadian citizenship. You can read about the changes here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/r...citizenship.asp

You will not lose your Canadian citizenship when you accept citizenship in another country. Canada recognizes dual citizenship and the only way you would lose your citizenship in Canada is if you formally renounce it. There is a form that you need to fill out to do that so taking the oath of US citizenship does not count. Canada does not recognize that oath. The US just prefers to 'ignore' any other citizenship and for all intents and purposes considers you a US citizen but does not require you to take additional actions to renounce formerly any other citizenships. The US cannot take your Canadian citizenship away from you - that is not their right.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
