Hi all,

I think I am moving onto the next part in my journey and I am trying to be proactive about it. Here is a quick run down so far.

We have been thru the K-1 process, my beautiful wife is now here in the US and we did all of the AOS stuff, she got her "green card" but it doesnt expire until

7/8/10 which means I dont have to worry about the I-751 till 90 days from then correct?

I am also wondering why hers is 3 years valid as I thought the first one was only valid for 2 years?

Humbly,

Ramos

According to your time line, the green card was not approved until 2008. That's the starting period for this card. So, she only got a two year card.

 woot, so i still have another year to wait then, phew!!!, but i will start gathering evidence now :D

Only reason I started getting a little anxious is cause we got married 7/23/2007, but I know the time clock doesnt start then it starts when the card says it will expire on.

I even called her back and said hey read the card carefully :P dont think!!! She gets the month and day messed up, sigh...... :P

Thanks Happy!!

Ramos

Card is good for 2 years from date issued.

Besides things you're going to start gathering to submit..... Start putting some $$$$ away as it's up around $1,000 to remove condition

The cost of filling to remove conditions is $465.00 for I-751 and $80.00 for the biometrics. Yes it could increase in the next 18 months but I dont think it will be increased to $1000.00

Gathering your evidence as you go along is by far the best thing to do, makes things very easy when it comes time to put your packet together.

Yah I was about to say rut row, lol. Form says 465 + 80 :P I should have that no problem.

I agree I am going to start gathering evidence now, cause we are terrible at pictures.

Whats really silly to me, is now a year after doing this piece, we get to pay another almost 600 for her to become a citizen if she decides to.

She is a Canadian and is wary of a becoming a US Citizen, do you all have any advice in regards to this?I am thinking she could be both, no?

Absolutely she can do both. Canada recognizes dual citizenship so she would be both a Canadian and an American. While the oath says you renounce previous citizenships Canada doesn't recognize that - the only way to renounce Canadian citizenship is through filing an official form with Canadian Immigration and Citizenship, and the US doesn't require us to do that. Basically, the US just turns a blind eye to other citizenships held by its citizens treating them and expecting them to behave like US citizens. She would need to use a US passport to return to the US but she can use her Canadian passport travelling outside of the US, and Canada will always consider her to be a citizen. She can find out more here: http://www.cic.gc.ca - click on citizenship (after selecting language of choice, of course!)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
