Hi ladies - woohoo I'm here first! Couldn't sleep so I was up at 7 even though I should have been able to sleep in today - funny how that works. Today Me, Youssef, Mikhail and my mom are going to Madison for my step-brothers graduation party. It should be nice and Youssef is really excited to go see a new city! He loves to travel and see things here, he still can't quite grasp how big everything is! I'm starting my Arabic language study since I have a 4 week break from classes. I've decided I'm going to learn how to do it all instead of just talking and understanding. So if anyone knows of any good books or some websites (I do better in print version) send 'em this way! Have a great weekend guys!

Well, good morning Amera... sounds like u have a fun day ahead. As for the Arabic - do you want to learn classical arabic or moroccan arabic? They are a bit different.... the dialect, I mean. I have some recommendations for both, but will have to look them up. For Moroccan, there's a little book by Lonely Planet, it's not totally comprehensive, but a handy phrase book. And there are a few websites for learning Darija also (moroccan arabic). As for standard, I'd recommend a couple of sources, one is a book w/ cd's used in classes called "Alif Baa", I'm sure you can get it online - it's at my office, so I can give you ISBN# another time. Also, Pimsleur courses offers a nice cd "quick course" - Arabic in 10 Days (not!)... but it's handy also... and I got some accompanying resources from a "Language Map"... gotta look those up too, but found them at Barnes & Noble...

anyhoo, it's a big undertaking, so good luck!!!! I'm still working on it also :P

Well I think that learning classical arabic would definetely benefit me especially in the line of work I am going into, however my main purpose for learning is so that I can talk to Youssef's family and understand them too! We are actively planning to move back at some point (3-5 years) and I would like to be comfortable by that time. Thanks for the suggestions, I have the lonely planet book and also the arabic in 10 minutes a day. I guess I'd really like to find a textbook (like what would be used in a HS or College classroom) They are just a little more structured and easier for me to study from!

then you would definitely benefit from "Alif Baa".... it is the textbook used in one of the high schools here - the teacher gave me one as a gift when I did a bellydance presentation to her class :P

If you're interested, I'll get the info from it when I go back to my office.... PM me...

Good Morning everyone! Well we finally got an email reply from the embassy. They have sent pkt 3 on June 3rd. It has been one week since they sent it. They told him if he did not receive it, to come to the embassy and they will give him another one. I am hoping he will get it soon, but Algerian mail service suxs. (Icey will say "AMEN" to that statement.) If not, he will go to Algiers this weekend. Of course it will give him another chance to visit Yacine and Icey. I told him to go ahead and call to get an appointment for the medical and get that done while he is there.

I wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!!! to GinFar, a new VJer. Her fiance had his interview 6 days ago in Algiers. She got an email from the embassy today also, their visa is being issued today. She told me her fiance was not asked any questions at his interview. They just looked at his supporting documents.

:dance: WhooooHoooooo for Ginger and Farouk!!!!:dance:
