Heya all =D I've been talking to Knight's step-sister, who's an absolute sweetheart and an expert in wedding planning (she herself had hers last summer). Because both Knight and I believe in God, but aren't part of any one religion as such, we will be wanting a proper ceremony but the get-up is fair game. I'm looking at red wedding dresses (we're students so we do have to budget somewhat =P but neither of us have a long guest list aside from his family) online, because I can more or less pick out a design, hand it over to his step-sister and she can scout around to see if anybody can order it into their shop.

I've fallen in love with this piece, original website is here.

For the record, I'm 5'8, 34" chest, 29" waist and 38" hip. Any expert dressmakers out there, or peeps who've already had their weddings done? Thankums!

Magpie.

The dress is gorgeous.

But as Shaz said have a look at Ebay as there are some fantastic companies on there.

You can always email the picture to one of the ebay companies and they can make it for you and the shipping costs won't be as extortinate.

I had my dress made by a company on ebay and it is gorgeous, better quality than ones i had seen in shops here, and it only cost £90 delivered.

Beautiful dress. There are tons of sites which will make a dress from a picture, I came across a few whilst searching myself.

Here's a site which you might be able to find a similar dress on http://www.9lover.com/ and they are real cheap.

I just bought the pattern for my dress so my mum can make it, just need to find the material.

I was just wondering whether it was possible to order that dress through another site or something, or whether you CAN just flash the photo of the dress at any dressmaker and whether they'd be able to track it down.

I know that fabric can be expensive out of Asia so I was just looking for advice as to the best way of going about it. Would someone be able to replicate something like that exactly (or as closely as possible)?

And thanks for the other responses, guys -- you've been great help =D.

Eeeek. The silk I found in John Lewis was £11.50 a metre (in the sale) and the duchess satin (not the shiny satin) was £12. Those most expensive I liked was £28 a metre.

There's too much beading detail to get done by hand in short period of time so u will want to consider that. Also the amount of beading detail will up the cost a good seamstress with good hand beading skills could do it but a specialist sewing machine with the benefits of economies of scale and based in Mumbai will always be able to charge less than an American seamstress doing it by hand( =more man hours) anything can be copied, the question is a) is there a good enough seamstress availiable and B) is there a benefit from getting it made to order? Looking at the beading if you want it exactly as it is on pic the price/ cost won't be it. There are outlets on eBay based abroad that ripoff designs at cheaper cost and factory out put but some are shoddy and use cheap fabric/poor workmans ship so research before u click buy. If u go for a seamstress get quotes and ask for examples if their work before you agree.

Hey Magpie. My first advice is go to a salon in your area and try on dresses. Having shopped at alot of bridal salons with several brides, what they think they want and what they end up with is is very different. I'm just suggesting you go try on a dress that has the same lines/shape and make sure it's what you love. With your height, I think this trumpet style dress will look stunning on you, but try it out.

And I don't understand why you can't just order from the website where the dress is and have it shipped to Alaska? Are you thinking a dressmaker could do it cheaper? I don't think so. The comments about quality of fabric are valid and do affect the ultimate cost of a gown.

not just quality of fabric but man hours too with the beading,a seamstress will do it all by hand and take a lot longer, than those done on a machine. and thats a lot of beading, if someone could do this cheaper i would be suspect at the quality, unless the dress costs a fourtune already because of the label.

the only reason i am saving money without compromising the quality is because i avoid paying someone else to do it by doing my self. not just avoiding profit margins, had i sold my design, i would have added all costs together, worked out £10 for every hour spent on the thing and then doubled it to get a healthy profit margin, though a seamstress will prob just charge a healthy hourly rate on top of material costs. so if a dress takes say 10 hours, and the seamstress charges only ten for every hour she worked thats £100 plus for example in my case £69 per meter fabric, well i'm thinking my dress will need three or five meters of that fabric, this design will take more fabric because os the volume, and layers though its not the biggest design going, some wedding dresses take 20 meters in one skirt  so 5x £69 plus any other fabric or beading i would be looking at the cost of £465 and up thats just one fabric and man hours, there would be more fabric and matericals in my dress, such as linings and beads and zips. so i can save money on the man hours by not employing someone else. labour is a good chunk of cost too

Thankums guys -- I think I'll be ordering directly from that site, then. I just wasn't sure how reliable it was, but I guess I won't know without trying, and the price is amazing for a piece like that. I don't have any samples from that particular dressmaker so it would be a gamble, but at least I wouldn't be spending a fortune on it and I could always complain if it's not up to standard.

=D You guys have been wonderful, as always.
