In addition to all the firearms, a big bowl of Grapenuts should work as well.

(I've heard recently that if a bear charges you, the old "play dead" thing isn't as good as standing tall with your arms up and yelling loudly to let the bear know that you're going to fight back. The bigger and meaner you look, the more the bear will reconsider it's charge. Although.... I lack the stones to do that, and will probably try to outrun anyone whom I'm with!)

Ensure your beneficiary makes and brings with them to the States a copy of the DS-3025 (vaccination form)

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

It depends on where you are and what kind of bear it is. Normally if a brown or grizzly bear takes an aggressive stance with you, it usually indicates that either you came up on it unexpectedly or there are young ones in the area and they want to scare you off and get you out of their territory. Black bears on the other hand usually take off the instant they detect people in the woods, and if they act aggressive towards you it usually means they see you as a food source. So my advice, if it’s a brown/grizzly make your self loud and look big and back away, if a black bear make your self loud and look big and back away, but get ready to fight, rocks, sticks, pepper spray, a 44 mag would be best. Here is a recent warning to campers in Alaska:

The Anchorage office of the US Fish and Game Department has issued a warning to campers about high levels of bear activity this spring. They advise hikers and campers to wear little bells and carry pepper spray for defense. They also inform one of how to determine the different kinds of bear scat. Black bear scat has many seeds and smells of blackberries. Grizzly bear scat has small bells and smells of pepper.
