SPELLING LESSON:

Hillary (note the double-L) = Democratic Junior Senator from NY

Hilary (note single-L) = everyone's favorite fuzzalovable Tigretigre :luv:

This was a huge problem when I went to university in a very Republican NY county in 2000. I saw signs everywhere that said "HILARY: NOT HERE, NOT NOW, NOT EVER," or "HILARY GO HOME!" It got really depressing.

OK. approximately 12 million Mexicans (the country to the south of the US) and others crossed the border into the US. They drove, flew, or simply walked, many simply overstayed their visas. The Illegal Aliens protested recently and the US President and US Congress has decided to grant them Amnesty – give them free US Citizenship.

To prepare for the Amnesty the USCIS divided the I-129 work to process these 12 million between two centers.

As of April 1, 2006, all non-immigrant visa applications (I-129 (worker), & I-129F (fiancée)) were sent to California and Vermont.

There are between 9,000 and 14,000 people applying for K-1 Visas per year. There are 12 millions Illegal Aliens the US President and Congress will give amnesty – free citizenship. There are only so many workers to process everyone. If you are lucky, you may beat the 12 millions amnesty visa applications after amnesty is given if you file your I-129F K-1 Visa Application now.

However, as of March 6, 2006, the IMBRA law is in effect and you will be using the wrong form to file your K-1 Visa and eventually you must be re-processed. If you do not file before the Amnesty law is passed then you will have a longer time to wait for your I-129F K-1 Visa Application to be processed anyway.

K-1 Fiancé(e) Visas or I-129F's are DOA except for very minimal inspection. NOA1's are easy to get - it simply states you sent, USCIS received

What on earth are you babbling about?

The Congress and the President have not decided to give amnesty to anyone (and by the way, illegal immigrants are from many, many countries - not just Mexico). There is an immigration reform bill that includes a legal path to citizenship for people who meet a set list of rules and criteria. Most illegal immigrants currently in the US will not qualify. There is no "amnesty" and this bill has not been enacted into law and there is no way to know if and when it might happen and what the final law may include.

The restructuring of US Service Centers has been in the works for a long time, to meet with the demand for visa petitions of all types and to have Service Centers that specialize in specific visa types. The idea is to have specialists in each Service Center who know the law and can process the petitions efficiently rather than the great disparity there has been between California taking 6 months for a Fiance Visa while Vermont could process in 2 - 4 weeks.

People on this forum have followed the legal process for fiance visas and are trying to get concrete information regarding the next steps to comply with the IMBRA. Since you are clearly looking to stir up trouble, why don't you find somwhere else to do it.

Man of Action, do you make this stuff up as you type your posts, or do you decide ahead of time which absurdities you're going to propound?

The immigration reform package originated in the House, and the House and Senate still have a lot of work to do in order to come up with a compromise. There is no "amnesty," and there is certainly no "amnesty application" that is about to swamp the Service Centers and butt our petitions out of the line.

You are obviously tossing as many "buzz issues" as you can into your posts in order to get people riled, to what purpose I do not know. Personally, Hillary Clinton and feminists and Mexicans hold no fear for me, so please take your offensive rhetoric and bizarre theories elsewhere.

I mean, really now.

I am not a practicing attorney. I have a law degree and I passed the bar exam, but am not admitted to practice because I got a job in legal publishing and haven't gotten around to applying for my license yet. Publishing is great, but it does not make you qualified to give legal advice. So I don't. I just want to get married to my fella, which is why I'm here! If you need legal help, seek the advice of a licensed attorney.

Much better than my snarky answer. I had to delete--I mean, really now, it was mean.

;)

I will add that "amnesty" (even if it were to occur) is not the same as "free citizenship" or anything like it.

MoA might be surprised at how few of the amnestyized of the '80s actually naturalized.

Yeah, I'm new to this board and am finding it very helpful, but I find the most disturbing thing here to be this vague anti-immigrant undercurrent in some of the posts. Just because we are all applying to have immigration benefits because of a relationship does not mean there are not a million other reasons to want to come to the U.S., many of them not legal.

I feel like if the US is going to promote selfish economic policies (i.e. NAFTA) then maybe we should accept that there are consequences. Like millions of illegal immigrants, whether you like it or not.

PS, those people are not receiving immigration benefits INSTEAD of us (ahem, much like how they are not getting jobs INSTEAD of us); in fact, the US gov't continues to SPLIT UP families where one parent is an illegal immigrant, deporting people with children who have lived here for 20 years.

Courage, Alexandra+Reynaldo! That sentiment is recent and, I suspect, temporary.

Bit of an upset going on now, & the board has attracted some new members who might be here to stir up 'stuff'.
