Cold Weather

Silk long underwear makes a nice welcome gift as well as a fluffy warm robe and slippers. My DIL has been very brave and gracious, but I know she hasn't adjusted yet. She's been here a month, arriving with our first snow storm. The electric blanket or mattress pad is a must. Wearing socks to bed helps. Fortunately we wear the same size shoe, and my new warm boots look great on her. Just having a warm mug in her hands helps. We haven't been able to locate the kind of tea she likes. They expect to be relocated to Florida in May, so knowing this is temporary may be helping. Space heaters are good. Just be careful with them. Taking her to high altitude the first week to cut a Christmas tree was probably not the smartest idea. She has decided that ice skating is brutal.

Just your thoughtfulness in thinking this through before she arrives is a good start. Put the emphasis on cozy.

The Philippines has no cold weather.

That's not necessarily true, there are places in the RP where it actually snows.

Where? :wow:

Fog maybe and cold wind.. but snow?

Baguio and Tagaytay are both cold places. Although we don't have snow here in the Philippines, there's been some exceptions. Two years back or probably even last year Quezon province and places up in the north experienced this phenomena.

We are in Misouri. This is Ruchie and Mathews 2nd winter here. I was suprised how quickly they adapted to the cold weather. Buy her a lot of skin lotion and have as much sex as you can to take off the chill. Works for me!!!

But then, the spirit might be willing but the flesh is weak! And, besides, the freeezing temperature won't help.

 .......... But you can always snuggle!...

I 'am gonna have to call Bull$hit on that statement.

No way, No how.

Too close to the equator to snow.

Mountains are not high enough either.

I would have to question this as well...

While proximity to the equator is not contrary to snow. IE: Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa

I do not think there are mountians in the Philippines close to 20000 feet tall...

My sister was there in 1952-55 and saw snow. It is some place north of Manila, up in the mountains.

Possibly due to changes in our weather, before i left the philippines, I saw this report (actual footage) in philippines local news... local plants covered with snow. Snow in the philippines is not common.

Philippines is a tropical country and seeing snow is not common. But it happened.

There are town in the northern part of the philippines that are quite cold. Baguio is pretty hot compared to those town.

Just go further north....

Well.... I stand corrected then.

I think it was frost and not snow. Hale happens, and up in Sagada, the temp does drop to freezing on very rare occasions. But actual snowfall, nah...?

When I arrived here, it was late summer. Everyone was in shorts, while I was in a jacket. They had the AC running, while I had a heater under my desk, also running. Adjusting meant putting up with the cold, and trying to get used to it, but up to now, I have my own heater under my desk (even after we've moved). The new wardrobe idea is great :D but it's also important to learn how to layer clothes. I hate doing that cuz it means more laundry :P but it DOES work.

Also, just because "it doesn't feel that cold", don't let your girl leave the house without gloves. I went out once while hubby was at work, and didn't wear gloves because it didn't seem too bad. Oh did I regret that decision...

Oh yes, Layers is always a good idea. I do that myself when its really cold out. We had -10F this morning and it was also windy! I do not even want to think about what the wind chill was...

I hope you were not injured from the cold...

Cold is very unforgiving and will hurt you. The damage done is long term and does not heal well.
