The New Jersey Division on Civil Rights said its investigation found that the refusal of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association to rent the oceanfront spot to the couple for their ceremony in March 2007 violated the public accommodation provisions of the state's Law Against Discrimination.

If you had a restaurant you couldn't stop a gay couple or a Muslim couple from eating there either.

You couldn't? I thought restaurants had the right to refuse service to anybody.

Not based on race, gender, or religion. t's against the law to do so.

I suppose they technically have that right, but if it's exercised, they would probably lose customers or get sued. It's in a restaurant's best interest to allow anyone in provided they dress appropriately.

In other words, if I were going to a five-star restaurant, I wouldn't expect to be allowed in if wearing a T-shirt, jeans and sneakers. Unless, of course, I was Abe Frohman, the "sausage king of Chicago." ;)

Not for those reasons though.

Do they even need a reason? They can ask you to leave, and that's that.

Sure. Much the same reasoning why a heavily pregnant woman might be told that she's not qualified for the job she's applying for (even though she's more than qualified). People discriminate all the time - they just hide it behind other reasons.

Its not unlike some of the legal immigration laws - where subjective "intent" determines legality.

With this liberal logic soon Ministers will be legally required to marry homos (public accommodations and all).

These "situations" only add fuel to the fire of ; No gay marriage.

hey I hired someone that I thought was really fat and it turned out she was pregnant. I was pissed off because she wanted the pastry chef position but couldn't stand for 14-16hrs a day and so she always called in. I fired her for calling in all the time.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Well... that's a little misleading and much different than someone being of a different race. If an employee is black, Hispanic or Asian, they probably won't have limits on their ability to work or at least any that couldn't compare to white employees.

Exactly.

I don't think the rental of a beachfront property will equate to forcing the church to endorse gay marriage.

Presumably they rent the place out to people who intend to stay in it and ordinarily don't ask questions about what the people they rent to (vacationers?) actually do in the property (I mean... it isn't just gay marriage that the church opposes). So if the church is making a stand on this issue, shouldn't there be a big list of things you're not allowed to do in the property?

I would guess that the couple were obligated to disclose the marriage, even though the person who would have actually performed the ceremony probably has no affiliation to the church whatsoever.

You discriminator. You don't like fat or pregnant people.
