Anyone have experience flying China Airlines? They seem to have the best fares to Bangkok from LAX...about $800-900. Northwest has been $1200.

Going to BKK Feb 22.

I can't say that I do, but I'll bet the guys at FlyerTalk have some information on China Airlines. Give that site (and their message boards) a try.

I flew on their flights many times to BKK. Nothing wrong with the flights other than the length of them. The layover is a bit of a pain but it has to be done.

N west sucks & is expensive.

Thai Air is the best but more expensive.

I think that's why we called them as "North Worst", right ?

And United Airline has similar price range compared to China Airline for LAX to BKK around that time, I think.

My DIL got bumped to China from Eva for her Dec. 11th flight. She seemed to think it was fine and had no problems. At that time I think she was just relieved that she could leave as scheduled. One of her internships while in college was to handle customer complaints for Bangkok Airways.

I wanted to chime in my opinion too :). I have flown Cathay Pacific from many cities world wide (including to BKK). If I am right you can simply take a flight from LA --> Hong Kong --> BKK. This is nearly a straight line and the shortest airtime. Cathay is pretty competitive on price and their planes are nice. I also like JAL and Korean if you can find flights on them. If you want to pay a small premium for a really nice flight, try Singapore Airlines :).

I have flown NWA before on a flight from Narita to the States. That was the last time I flew with them. They had no TV's or entertainment centers in the coach seats (unlike nearly all Asian airlines). Also the plane was older. The price was not any cheaper than the Asian Airlines as well.

I just checked and Cathay Pacific is US$981 for 22 Feb to 8 March. There are tons of departure and return times of day and this is the shortest flight you can get to BKK in terms of airtime. The airlines is also very nice (and there is a mall at the Hong Kong Airport that you can pick up last minute gifts at before boarding your connecting flight). :)

True Capt but if you get a chance try Thai Air. Only direct flights that I know of. Great in flight service ect. Last time I flew with them they gave me a free first class seat. That is the Nirvana of flying to BKK!

Thai airways is expensive now. Their fares look low, but then get to the end screen, and they add nearly 600 in taxes and surcharges to the airfare for the direct flight from LAX. Also I had read Thai is discontinuing non-stop service from LAX in Feb.

I usually fly EVA air for 1147 (Economy), or 1400 (Premium Class), which flys to BKK via Taipei, and takes about 20 hours with Layover. I usually get into BKK about 11:45, it is a good time, hardly any other flights getting in at that time, so immigration takes a couple minutes.

I looked into a lot of the other airlines and they had crazy layover times, or extended flying time. I am not spending 26+ hours flying and waiting. The few extra bucks are worth it.

Just to chime in one thing you might have already known - Air China and China Air are two very different entities. China Air is a Taiwanese carrier with a decent record; I'd be willing to fly with them. Air China is the former CAAC, which is to say it is the Chinese equivalent of Aeroflot. Nuff said.

Sounds great :). I will try them next time. I am in BKK every so often so next time it will be who I fly!
