Just got an e-mail from my Fiancee! I was out of town for a few days and in my absence my fiancee called the consulate and asked if she could pick up Packet 3! They told her to send them her passport with CMNN????(which she has already done) I never heard of anyone sending in the passport before getting Packet 3 and I have no idea what CMNN means. She is sleeping right now so thought you good people may have some insight to these questions!

I can answer one of your questions. CMNN stands for Chứng minh nhân dân, which is her Vietnamese National ID card. Or at least, I think it is, because that doesn't really match up with CMNN, does it? I think it should be CMND. I'm guessing that's what it should be anyway, what else would they want?

But WHY they want those just to pick up Packet 3, I have no idea. That seems highly irregular.

That is what I thought it was (National ID card) but Im perplexed as to why they would want her to send her passport. She lives in the Mekong Delta, and I was always told to never let your passport out of your site!! She is very trusting but as with any country, there are misguided souls who will do things for their own gains. Was wondering if any one else has had this happen????

It's CMND.

Need VN passport and CMND to pickup Pack-3. Without those required document, I don't believe they'll let her through the door!:dance::dance:

Asking her to "MAIL" those to them? Not sure what you mean, never heard of HCMC asking the petitioner to mail in the passport at Pack3 phase. Or am I wrong? It's been a long time ago...

I have a feeling that there is a misunderstanding. They thought she wanted to come pick it up and they told her what to bring to get it and she had maybe heard mail or something.

You know, that makes a good deal of sense. That's probably what happened.

However...boy, I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but assuming Packet 3 is going to be mailed, she sure shouldn't wait for it. She should get the form online, and get it filled out without wasting time.
