Timeline

I just went through the AOS process, but I have no idea about the timeline/process for citizenship. My husband got conditional residency in November 2008, a few days before our 1 year anniversary. Obviously, the conditions are to be removed in November 2010. After that, how long until we can apply for citizenship, and when its all said and done with the filing and the test taking, etc When could he expect to be a citizen?

We're just wanting to get the best estimate because we are planning to get his citizenship here and then once thats done we might go to Canada for awhile and work on mine there.

Thanks!!

You can download the M-476 manual to answer many of your question, just type that in google. Both your conditional and N-400 can be sent in 90 days before his LPR anniversary date, and that puts the N-400 exactly one year later than the I-751.

Good time to read up and that and start accumulating your evidence and logging your out of country trips.

It depends on meeting a number of requirements, so you really do need to look at the M-476 to find out in detail when you'll meet each requirement.

But typically the "continuous residence" requirement is the last one to be met. If that's your case, you'll be able to file the paperwork 90 days before your three year anniversary of obtaining the first green card status (the "resident since" date on the green card tells when status was obtained). This works out to be one year after the window opens for filing for removal of conditions.

It's anybody's guess how fast they'll be processing things at that future time. My guess would be that it will take six months to a year after filing the paperwork before citizenship is granted; that's roughly how long it's been taking recently. But if you've gone this far through immigration, you know that timelines are unpredictable.
