Hi,

The instructions for the I 485 state to send a copy of the foreign birth certificate along with translation, I have a copy right now, but the embassy kept the original for the K1 interview, I am in the process of waiting for my wife's family to send me 2 original copies from her country.

My question is, do I need to send a copy of the certificate tht I intend to submit at the interview? if not I can mail everything off right now.

Technically the instructions state "A COPY", not the copy that I will be submitting, I am also willing to wait if anyone knows this to be an issue.

thanks for your support

As a general rule - when submitting evidence/supporting-documents with a petition or application - a copy is recommended (not the original) since you may not get it back (things get lost sometimes too) - and bring originals to the interview (if you get one).

thanks for the replies,

my question is do I need to supply a copy the exact original that I will submit at a later time, I currently only have a copy of my wife's birth certificate. the original was kept by the embassy. I am currently waiting for her family to send new originals.

would it be considered fraudelent activity if I do not have the original of the copy that I submitted.

thanks

A copy of what you may need to submit later (if an interview is involved) is what you need to send. Agree with other posters, send only a copy of what they want, unless specifically requested for an original. Good Luck
