Hi all,

I apologize if this is a simple question and has been asked, however I spent quite a bit of time searching but was unable to get an exact answer.

My question is if we (my fiancee really) recently have just gotten pregnant and her interview date is just a couple of months away, will they make us wait until the baby is born to prove I am the father to approve the visa? I have asked a lawyer and they told me that they might make us wait.

The truth is, she is not pregnant now and the interview date is not really a couple of months away. We are wanting to get a head start and hoping to have her pregnant a couple of months before her approval. I am afraid that they might really make us wait until the baby is born when she could have been approved if she was not pregnant. Our plan is to have her pregnant a couple/few months before she comes to the US and then give birth in the US. But I am afraid that at the interview, they see that she is pregnant and will make us wait.

Thanks so much.

thats the kinda thing u need to do together, i think its a better idea to wait, health insurance doesnt pay for pre-existing conditions so ur HI might not cover the birth (i think)... also what happens if she has a miscarriage in the process, and ure there and shes on the other side??? i think it would be nicer if u wait till you together just think of all the little moments u will experience together... the father is just as important as the mother right?

All true. Is there some reason why it is important for her to become pregnant before arriving in the US and being covered by health insurance?

I came to the US on a K1 being 7 month pregnant, and had my interview at the embassy carrying a more than visible baby-belly around and nobody at the embassy asked any questions about my pregnancy. I don't know though if this was because Frankfurt is a fairly easy embassy, but anyway.

In regards to the health insurance: my husband added me to his health insurance without any problems (Optimum Choice), they didn't consider my pregnancy as a precondition.

You definitely want to make sure that your health insurance can add your wife without any problems, though. I've seen the bills the Hospital charged for the delivery, it almost knocked me off my feet when I saw the numbers.

You really don't want to be stuck with a bill like that, so be sure that your HI will add your wife without asking questions.

Good luck!

Thanks for all your replies.

My fiance is also pregnant and living overseas. I contacted me HI yesterday and they will cover her pregnancy, after we marry of course. They do not consider pregnancy as a pre-existing condition because your only pregnant for a finite amount of time. It's not like cancer where it can go on for years and years. So I would call your HI and explain the situation and see if they have the same policy. I hope this helps.
