Bringing peace and stability to the region is.

Peace and stability is in their best interests, not ours.

Sometimes, Steven, you forget which side you're on.

Camp David?

A symptom of the problem.

A nation with problems of its own, expending valuable time and energy towards the resolution of problems not its own.

Hardly what I'd call smart.

Well, the long standing argument for why we give so much military and financial support to Israel is for 'stability in the region', and part of the argument for the war in Iraq was to stabilize the region. I don't think anyone is arguing that its not in the best interests of the U.S.....but the question is how to go about doing that.

Alonzo Harris: What's wrong with street justice?

Jake Hoyt: Oh, what, so just let the animals wipe themselves out, right?

Alonzo Harris: God willing. ** 'em, and everybody that looks like 'em.

I am. I'm arguing just that. I'm arguing that our preoccupation the middle east is distracting us from our internal affairs, which are nothing short of a fvcking mess.

The ramifications extend way beyond that area. While the neo-cons keep thinking their war on terror is against a holy jihad, they're policies have done more for recruitment of extremists groups in that region than anything. A real winning strategy.

Neocons aren't the only ones who think that. Al Qaeda thinks their war is a jihad too (btw, 'holy jihad' is a redundancy).

No sh!t...so why is it so difficult to see that sometimes having to talk with such extremists is in our best interests? In other words, people who criticized Obama for even mentioning the possibility of talking with Iran, can't see the selective outrage...that only gets applied when it is ideologically expedient. The outrage is ideologically driven but projected as a moral outrage.

The criticisms that I heard, at least, were not simply that Obama mentioned the possibility of talking with Iran, but that he said it would be without preconditions.

Let's say he does. Let's say he does, and we don't get invaded by China from the west and al Qaeda swiftboats don't land on our shores from the east, the dollar doesn't go into freefall and SoCal doesn't secede and form La Raza..... then what?

Will you people admit maybe... maybe.... it wasn't as horrible an idea as you thought?
