LOS ANGELES — A motorist with 30 handguns, seven rifles and fully loaded ammunition magazines in his pickup truck has been arrested at Los Angeles International Airport.

Airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles says the truck was stopped Friday by airport police officers at an entrance to the passenger terminals area.

Castles says the man was arrested for investigation of weapons transportation violations. His name was not immediately released.

Airport police official Jim Holcomb told the KCAL-TV news station that there's no indication the man was out to do any harm at the airport. He was apparently picking someone up.

The FBI, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating.

Who knows, if the guy was just picking someone up.. and appeared to have no ill intent, whats the big deal, maybe he was coming back from a gun show, maybe he owns a gun shop?

At any rate, the Supreme Court has recently affirmed that the Second Amendment is a personal right, not limited to Government run Militias.... so if you are not going to limit how many books one might carry in a car, don't limit other rights either.

Of course All rights can be limited by time, place and manor. One would expect inside the airport might be one such instance.

I would think as long as he wasn't hauling them inside the airport terminal itself that it would be ok. Personally if I was carrying around my handguns I may leave most of them at home and just have my personal carry handgun but some may want to haul their arsenal around as I may if I lived in LA. It seems they were in his personal vehicle. He was arriving to pick someone up. Should be no deal except the police want to control the citizens as much as they can. The police over reacted as usual and should be sued right away.

Well, I don't know that they "Over reacted"....

If they saw a pick-up truck with a load of fertilizer at the airport ... they would be interested in that too.

Seems to me they just checked the guy out as I think they should have done.

In sensitive areas, one does not have the expectation of full and free use of all of your rights.

Damnit, am I becoming Danno?

I fundamentally agree with your points :)

I don't think they were over reacting, most people know that unless properly unloaded and in a case for travel, civilian firearms are not allowed in the airport.

The problem here might be how some people define being "in the airport". I don't think it's unreasonable to consider arrival and departure driveways as "in the airport".

I think it's as simple as someone coming onto your lawn or in your driveway, you would feel that they are trespassing on your property.

As for the number of guns....the damned liberal media loves to count guns....as if one isn't enough. If you can carry one, why not a dozen?

Like Danno said, if there's no limit on books, why on guns? Books are much more dangerous than guns.

As for over reacting, I'd say the statement about feeling a need to have your arsenal with you...if you lived in LA is a buying into the media's fear tactics.

"Be afraid here", "Think you're safe there?", "Be afraid of this", "Be afraid of that one", etc.

LA is no different from any other big cities....the best protection you can carry is a loaded brain. Loaded brains have saved more lives than all the guns and bullet resistant vests in Iraq.
