What's ironic on that notion alone, is how many American get put off when they hear about other people in other countries hating Americans for what our government does. There's a hell of a lot of double standards going regarding these issues. It's too bad that so many here don't own up to that.

Really? I don't think Americans give a ####### what Spain thinks.

If they did, they would have voted Kerry :jest:

Incorrect - the dying breed of neo-cons don't care what other countries think of us. So long and thanks for the fish.

So everyone who voted for Bush in 2004 is a "neo-con" and a "dying breed"?

Foreign countries loved Obama so your argument that Americans don't care what other countries think falls flat...albeit the argument was silly to begin with.

Metaphorically, the neo-cons are a dying breed in terms of U.S. politics. Do I really need to explain this one?

What many here have refused or failed to acknowledge is any responsibility Israel has towards the Palestinian people. Many here have placed the blame on the Palestinians themselves for voting the Hamas to power. Every country is responsible for its OWN citizens first. Palestinians are more responsible for their well-being than the Israelis long before the current conflict. Elected governments have a responsibility toward their citizens not trying to win overseas propganda wars.

Why is that some use the word "hate" on others so freely but don't want to look at their own biases? That's not just Jabba but a lot of folks on many different issues?

With the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, it's much more complicated than that. For starters, Israel had funded and helped to bring Hamas to power in hopes of marginalizing the PLO...which they did, but to their dismay, they replaced one pariah for another. The reality is there aren't any simple answers or solutions to the conflict and the people of Gaza are not going to be able to stop Hamas. One way, I think, is to have a coalition police force in Gaza, made up of both Palestinians and Israelis. Trying to deal with this conflict militarily is a perpetual failure and even many Israeli people are recognizing that.

The truth of the matter is that we favor Israel, for a few reasons...

- Jews are seen as children of God by many christians & if you oppose Israel then by default you oppose God.

- Israel is our only true ally in the region... it is in our national interests to defend them.

The truth is the blame goes both ways with Israel & its muslim neighbors. Those of you that think that Israel is purely innocent while their enemies are totally guilty are fooling yourselves (and that is the nicest way I can say it). Moreover to imply that anyone who says anything negative about Israel is anti-Israeli is absurd. This isn't Star Wars with the evil Republic vs. the good guys, this is real life. Welcome to reality!

I agree but in this case, even though Hamas is technically in power Israel is the one controlling the food/water/electricity/oil/medical supplies. So, WHO is responsible?

According to the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers "2004 Global Report on the Use of Child Soldiers", there were at least nine documented suicide attacks involving Palestinian minors between October 2000 and March 2004[3] In 2004, the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers reported that "there was no evidence of systematic recruitment of children by Palestinian armed groups," also noting that this remains a small fraction of the problem in other conflict zones such as Africa, where there are an estimated 20,000 children involved in active combat roles in the Sudan alone.[4]Human Rights Watch also reported that "there was no evidence that the Palestinian Authority (PA) recruited or used child soldiers."[5]

According to the Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group, in the al-Aqsa Intifada, Palestinian military folk have used children as "messengers and couriers, and in some cases as fighters and suicide bombers in attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians." Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) have all been implicated in involving children in this way, see Convention on the Rights of the Child. The issue was first brought to world attention after a widely televised incident in which a mentally handicapped Palestinian teenager, Hussam Abdo, was disarmed at an Israeli checkpoint.[6] The youngest Palestinian suicide bomber who blew himself up was Issa Bdeir, a 16-year-old high school student from the village of Al Doha. He blew himself up in a park in Rishon LeZion, killing a teenage boy and an elderly man.

Human rights organizations such as Amnesty International has strongly and repeatedly condemned violence against civilians:
