Here is what most people submit and have great success with.

  • Letter of Employment (if you can get it, not all employers will do this).
  • Pay stubs - as many as possible (not just 3)
  • Most recent Income Tax Return (including supporting documents such as W-2, 1099 etc) (Or an IRS Transcript which can be ordered for free and don't require supporting documents such as W-2, 1099 etc). Even if you're not self-employed.

The idea is to send as much evidence to support your income claim - not to send as little as possible.

one more tip:

if you cant get a letter of employment, have your fiance make his own and have it notarized by a lawyer.

my fiance did that and the consul accepted it (just had my interview the other day)

although it cant apply to all embassies and all consul officers but hey, it worked for us.

good luck.

Ok what do you submit for proof of income is employed normally?

1. Letter form Employer

2. Most recent W-2

3. most recent 3 Pay Stubs

4. Most recent tax return

Which of these are needed? are 1-3 enough if not "self-employed"?

A W2 is part of a tax return. You could submit one for 2008 without a return, if in February or March. Best practice is to submit three tax transcripts but no need unless it will actually help.

If your recent tax return looks good, just skip the pay stubs. They aren't required, so only use them if they help.
